Rogers is seeking a Principal IPRAN Transport Engineer. You will leverage your Telecommunications knowledge and experience along with your exceptional analytical, written, and verbal communication skills to support transport network initiatives. The primary focus of this position is Engineering Analysis, Design Standards and Specifications for IPRAN transport network.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Develops requirements and design specifications for new technology introduction
  • Expert level technical specialist on engineering, development and design initiatives
  • Oversees new architecture implementation and ongoing refinement activities
  • Analyzes technology industry and market trends and determines potential impact on IPRAN network
  • Identifies opportunities to extend existing/emerging technologies to meet anticipated network, business and customer needs
  • Actively participates in short to mid-range planning

Specialized knowledge & skills:

  •  10+ years experience in Transport Engineering. (Master of Engineering degree preferred)
  • Expert /Outstanding analytical and data processing skills with MS Excel. Ability to analyze large data sets describing network topology and performance to uncover correlations and draw conclusions is critical for this role.
  • Coding experience and ability to automate reports a definite asset
  • In depth understanding of various types mobile backhaul topology
  • Expert knowledge of IPRAN capacity planning/dimensioning principles
  • Experience in engineering and planning of L2/L3 IP networks a definite asset
  • Knowledge of IPRAN performance management protocols, particularly TWAMP
  • In-depth understanding of current and next generation wireline transport technologies: cWDM, DWDM, OTN, SONET, PON, Active and Fronthaul
  • Expert knowledge of current and next generation wireless transport technologies: licensed and unlicensed microware (MW), LOS and n/NLOS MW, P2P and P2MP MW, mmMW (E-band, V-band)
  • In-depth knowledge of synchronization protocol: PTP 1588, SyncE, NTP
  • Knowledge of 2G/3G/4G/5G architecture and RAN elements
  • Excellent business writing skills, particularly in report writing. Strong presentation skills.
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and database software
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision while managing multiple activities and work streams
  • Aptitude to work in cross-functional teams
  • Facilitates, influences, and persuades the decision-making on technical issues
  • Provides technical advice and coaches project teams through issues
  • Makes decisions and recommendations on highly technical or complex issues
  • Originality and ingenuity are required for devising practical and economical solutions to problems
  • Work is assigned in broad, specific objectives to be accomplished, and is reviewed for soundness of approach and general effectiveness
  • May act as a team leader for a small group of highly qualified professional personnel engaged in complex technical applications

What you will be doing…

Engineering Analysis, Design Standards and Specifications

  • Transport interface design and specification from cell site or RRU to core network or BBU
  • Network and system level engineering of the IPRAN Transport Networks
  • Capacity, Topology and Configuration Specifications
  • IPRAN Transport Engineering guidelines, performance modelling and optimization guidelines
  • Implementation methods and tech notes for IPRAN Transport network

 

Lifecycle Management of IPRAN Transport Network Hardware and Software

  • IPRAN hardware and software roadmap
  • Replacement evaluation of IPRAN system HW/SW

Testing and verification of upgrades, enhancements and optimizations for IPRAN Network

  • Validate IPRAN network changes in the lab
  • Testing methods and techniques, verify functional specifications, new technology introduction and assessment
  • Lab, field trials and first office applications/deployments

Engineering Support of IPRAN Transport Network

  • Engineering support of detailed design
  • Engineering support of changes, outages and problem cases
  • Technical training support and transfer of knowledge for new IPRAN Transport technology introductions
  • Lead competitive network intelligence activities for IPRAN
  • Industry tracking and benchmarking for IPRAN Transport network trends, engineering best practices and tools
