Big Data Development Lead

  • Rogers is seeking a Big Data Development Lead to lead the design and deployment of Big data solutions. Reporting to the Senior Manager – Big Data Innovation at the Rogers Park Brampton Campus, this role will be responsible for Designing and Developing Big Data solutions.


  • This individual will be expected to lead in the successful delivery of several simultaneous projects working collaboratively with multiple business units, IT teams and external partners. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead the project development for internal teams and vendor teams’ efforts towards successful project delivery.
  • Lead Vendor development teams to successful project delivery
  • Conduct code reviews with the developers within the development team
  • Manage the quality of the code being developed by the developers
  • Provide technical leadership to teammates through coaching and mentorship.
  • Maintain high standards of software quality within the team by establishing good practices and habits.
  • Identify and encourage areas for growth and improvement within the team.
  • Collaborate with developers, business analysts and software architects to plan, design, develop ETL and ELT solutions using Hadoop Data Platform frameworks for batch and streaming real-time data processing


  • 6+ years of experience working and supporting cross-functional project teams – clients, developers, solutions design, production support, 3rd parties and vendors
  • 3+ years of development experience deploying Hadoop core components and services: HDFS, YARN, Hive, Pig, HBase, Spark, Sqoop Etc.
  • Strong background in Business Intelligence and production experience with Data warehousing projects and programs
  • Development experience and excellent understanding of Data Warehousing lifecycle principles and best practices
  • Development experience and excellent understanding of Software Development Lifecycle principles and best practices
  • Experience and in-depth understanding of Hadoop Big Data ecosystem and best practices (Hortonworks is preferred)
  • Experience working with virtualized and physical environments, including public and private cloud
  • Experience in Telecommunication industry would be an asset
  • Experience with Analytics, Predictive Modeling, Machine learning applications would be an asset
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Highly motivated and very proactive individual, dedicated to follow-up/follow through without reliance on management for direction
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related field
  • Hadoop 2.0 Developer, Administrator or an equivalent certification
