The Device Technology and Syndicated Services Organization is looking for a Wireline Device Designer that has experience in the research, design and introduction of wireline devices within a Service Operator ecosystem.  A successful candidate will have knowledge in the device industry, landscape and future technology.  Reporting to the Manager of Wireline Device Technology, the successful candidate will have knowledge of Home Networking Devices, Modems, Smart Home Devices, IP Home Phone Products and IPTV.  The role will support the development of technology strategies and play a critical leadership role in how devices and device related features are introduced and managed on the Rogers Network.  This position requires a forward thinker, who is passionate about their work, can anticipate needs and has a desire to innovate. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the introduction of new device technology, services and features.
  • Support device architecture implementation and ongoing design refinement activities.
  • Contribute to the 13 year technology strategies and device roadmap.
  • Interact with crossfunctional teams and vendors to provide technical guidance.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the customer experience.
  • Identify device certification requirements for devices and gateways (ex. DOCSIS, PON, VoIP devices, WiFi extenders, etc.).
  • Support technical evaluation of vendor products and provide recommendations to Business and Management.
  • Provide technical deployment guidelines for managed devices and device features.
  • Conduct problem analysis, problem reproduction, and work with vendors on resolution of technical issues to ensure timely delivery of funded projects.
  • Prepare and maintain device/feature/application roadmaps and technical updates.
  • Maintain JIRA/Confluence pages. 


  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Computer Sciences or equivalent technical experience.
  • Advanced communication, presentation and collaboration skills.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and DevOps processes.
  • Familiarity with JIRA/Confluence.
  • Strong ability to manage conflicting priorities.
  • Knowledge in IPTV and Digital TV Systems, including HDMI, DRM, OTT applications, video processing and content delivery.
  • Experience working with data analytics and big data queries, such as Splunk, Azure and PowerBI.
  • Experience with WiFi testing, test tools and diagnostics.
  • Knowledge of fiber access technologies (i.e. GPON, EPON, xPON).
  • Knowledge of Smart Device ecosystem, including: Digital assistants (e.g. Amazon Echo, Google Home, etc), Home Security (e.g. Nest/Ring doorbells/cameras) and Home Automation (e.g. Smart lightbulbs/plugs/switches, Ecobee/Nest thermostats etc.).
  • Knowledge in IP network concepts: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLAN, VPN, etc.
  • Experience with Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel.
