Rogers is seeking a Cable Access Planner to support various initiatives related to the Cable Network from within the Cable Access and Technology Planning team.  Reporting to the Manager of Cable Access Network Planning at the Rogers Park Brampton Campus, this role requires leveraging Cable Telecommunications knowledge and experience to provide detailed analysis and modelling of the current Cable Access network, and the development of future Wireline plant.  The individual in this role will play an important part in shaping the future of the Wireline Cable Access Network.


What you will be doing…

  • Cable Access Network strategic modelling and new technology benefit analysis.
  • The general focus will be on fibre and cable network between the service platforms (eg. DTV, DOCSIS, PON) in the headend and customer devices.
  • Scope includes budgeting, cost/scenario modeling.
  • Short to long-range network and technology planning.
  • Collaborates on complex engineering projects or leads a number of smaller, less complex projects.
  • Designs, develops, and evaluates plans, and criteria for a variety of engineering products or activities.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams such as Outside Plant Engineering, Finance, and Technology teams.
  • Works on problems that are complex and sometimes involve issues that have not been encountered before where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangibles.
  • Develops requirements and design specifications for existing applications, upgrades and expansions.
  • Ensures that new specifications or plans have been engineered to acceptable standards.
  • Develop and support network models to support Engineering and Planning processes.
  • Authoring and editing Engineering Planning Specifications, and other technical documentation.
  • Support new technology introduction and associated knowledge transfer.

 

What you will have…

  • Education, experience should include undergraduate university degree in engineering, computer science.
  • Overall 5 years of experience in telecommunication industry focusing in Wireline/cable portfolio
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to breakdown complex problems into smaller logical tasks.
  • Outstanding analytical and methodical troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge of HFC and fibre optic networks preferred.
  • Experience in managing multiple, simultaneous complex projects.

  • High proficiency in Excel.  VBA expertise preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Database and programming experience an asset.
