Director Engineering, Core Network

Reporting to the SVP, Network Planning, Development and Core Engineering, the Director Engineering, Core Network is a key leadership role within the Network Engineering discipline for the Rogers network.

The scope of the role includes the engineering of the:

  • IP network that supports wireless and wireline customer services, and corporate services over the enterprise network
  • Core network to support all voice, data and messaging services in both a virtualized and non-virtualized infrastructure context

Responsibilities:

  • Design and engineering of all IP network functions: routing, access, distribution and core
  • Detailed design and engineering of control functions and service platforms
  • Control management, payload traffic and associated network components
  • Evolved Packet Core
  • Service enablement applications for High Speed Internet; e.g. DNS, DHCP, BAC
  • Service delivery environment
  • Peering, transit and NNI connectivity with service providers and partner networks
  • IMS domain for wireline and wireless (VoLTE) voice applications.
  • Core circuit switch voice infrastructure (MSC, RNC, BSC)
  • Core wireless data infrastructure – enhanced packet core
  • Centralized User Data Base (HLR, HSS)
  • Network signalling control functions (SS7, DRA)
  • Enhanced Service domain (SMS, MMS, Voice Mail)
  • Data services metering & rating
  • Design of switch data translations for voice traffic routing, including 911 and e911
  • Engineering of core service application integration in a virtualized infrastructure construct
  • Engineering support to the Operations teams

What you have

  • Senior leadership experience in Technology, Engineering and telecom
  • Strong business acumen with a customer focus
  • Deep industry knowledge
  • Detailed understanding of IP protocols and standards, security threats and mitigation techniques, trends in routing and switching equipment design and familiar with leading vendor (Cisco, Juniper, ALU) IP equipment portfolios
  • Industry recognised designation, e.g. CCIE Routing and Switching or equivalent.
  • Expertise in GSM, HSPA, LTE, IMS technologies and signal control protocols such as SS7, ISUP, Diameter and SIP and associated control networks design
  • Depth of knowledge in core network service applications and platforms, including industry trends and technology evolution
  • Proficiency in analyzing and understanding the most complex of technical concepts and the ability to problem solve difficult network issues
  • People manager with experience leading, managing and motivating a team
  • University degree with 15+ years of experience
