Rogers is seeking an HFC and Optical Access Designer to support various initiatives related to the Cable Access Network.  Reporting to the ‘Manager, HFC and Optical Access Testing’ at the Rogers Park Brampton Campus, this role requires leveraging Cable Telecommunications knowledge and experience to provide lab testing, analysis, and modelling of the Cable Access network and new technologies.  The individual in this role will play an important part in shaping the future of the Cable Access Network.  The general focus of the team is ‘Hybrid Fibre Coax’ and ‘Passive Optical Network’ Access network between service platform ports (e.g. DOCSIS, PON) in the ‘headend’ and customer devices, including customer devices.

What you will be doing…

  • HFC & PON lab testing & verification of upgrades, and/or enhancements.  Most testing will be on site in the Rogers HFC Lab in Brampton.
  • Network, system level engineering analysis, specifications & optimization of the HFC & Optical Access Network.
  • HFC & PON new technology integrations, introduction & first deployments.
  • Assists on complex engineering projects or leads smaller, less complex projects.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams such as Outside Plant Engineering, Equipment Engineering, and Network Planning teams.
  • Develop and support network models to support Engineering and Planning processes.
  • Engineering support of HFC & PON HW/SW changes, outages & problem cases.
  • Works with RFQ/RFP lead to ensure products are up to Rogers’ performance standards and work with Procurement teams to finalize decisions.
  • Technical documentation such as Technical Notes, and Evaluation Reports.
  • Develops and implements test methodologies.
  • Assist decision-making of management on technical issues.



What you will have…

  • Education, experience should include university degree in engineering, community college diploma in a technical field, or equivalent experience. 
  • Minimum 1-3 years experience in the industry.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to breakdown complex problems into smaller logical tasks.
  • Outstanding analytical and methodical troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience using test equipment such as Spectrum Analyzers, Network Analyzers, and Power Meters.
  • Core Competencies: customer service orientation, teamwork and collaboration, adaptability, initiative.
  • Role-Specific Competencies: innovation/creative thinking, problem solving/judgment, achievement orientation, listening, understanding & responding.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment, in an organized, methodical and pleasant manner.
  • Ability to work from assigned objectives, relative priorities and critical areas that impinge on work of other units.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
