Who we’re looking for
Rogers has an exciting opportunity for a Network Designer working in our Calgary office.
Reporting to Sr. Manager, Core IP Network Capacity Planning, the successful candidate will be responsible for creating, documenting and maintaining Network designs (Layer 1-3)
What you’ll do:
- Gather required technical design information from all stakeholders involved
- Prepare Network Design Attribute (NDA) documents outlining tasks required to be completed by implementation teams
- Manage key network circuit design tasks through ServiceNow
- Document planned and revised changes to the Rogers network infrastructure in the NetDoc tool
- Generate Visio Diagrams depicting network connections (logical and physical)
- Ensure standards in engineering practices are followed
- Address questions about existing design tasks from issues that may arise
- Initiate requests for the release of unused fibre to the Fibre Projects group
- Check capacity on existing network facilities
- Notify appropriate engineering groups regarding network resources
- Perform audits on various network components as required
- Other duties as necessary
What you bring
- Post secondary education in a related technical discipline or equivalent experience
- 1-3 years of experience with telecommunications technologies (DWDM, SONET, ETHERNET, MPLS, Wi-Fi, CMTS)
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office ie: Outlook, Excel and Word
- Excellent understanding of Microsoft Visio
- Experience with Cisco, Nokia/Alcatel, Fujitsu, Genband, Telnet and SSH considered an asset
- CCNA certification an asset
- Strong analytical skills along with verbal and written communication skills
- Attention to detail
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing business needs and workflow demands
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize work
- Proven People skills to be able to work within and across teams with integrity, sincerity and empathy
- Excellent organizational skills to deliver a customer focused approach in problem solving
