About Software Development Engineer in Test:

We are currently seeking a Software Development Engineer in Test to join the Rogers Continuous Service Validation & Reliability Team. This team manages new software release testing of all Connected Home Services (Ignite TV, Ignite Home Phone, Internet, and Smart Home Monitoring) for Rogers Communications. The team is responsible for ensuring high quality and reliable product updates are propagated to Rogers customers by applying industry leading automated testing practices, as well as daily validation of key product features and functionalities. This team is part of the Rogers Quality Engineering department and also has accountability for developing new test automation capabilities for other customer facing applications (Digital, Media, etc.) and customer care applications and tools.  


Program Design:

As part of the program, successful candidates will participate in 1-2 job rotations over 12 months. Rotational plans are designed to tap into your personal and professional development. You will also be paired with a mentor and coach!


What you will be doing:


You will have the opportunity to work with numerous stakeholders (Product Owners, Scrum Masters, Developers, and Site Reliability Engineers) to design and develop innovative testing solutions. The successful candidate will be part of a fast-paced development team responsible for delivery of exceptional experiences that delight our customers. As a member of this team, you will be responsible for:

  • Development of User Interface test automation scripts for new features on Ignite TV (STB, Mobile, Web), Ignite SmartStream (STB), Ignite Wifi Hub (Mobile, Web), and Rogers Smart Home Monitoring
  • (Mobile, IoT devices).
  • Identifying, designing, developing, implementing, and operating new automation capabilities within the Rogers Automation Framework Agile Release Train and to expose these automation capabilities to other teams within Rogers.
  • Work with the Automation Lead to evaluate new test frameworks and methodologies, provide recommendations to the team, and implementation of the recommendations by operationalizing them.
  • Collaborating with cross functional teams to drive new automation capabilities and continuously improve testing strategy, governance, and increase operational efficiencies.


Required Qualifications:

  • Entering your final year of your bachelor’s degree OR have completed your degree between 2021 and 2023 in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or other quantitative disciplines
  • Must have graduated before the end of June 2023
  • Proficient with software testing principles and QA methodologies
  • Hands on experience in end-to-end Test Automation tools and frameworks (Selenium, Appium, GitHub, Jenkins, UiPath, Jira, Confluence)
  • Proficient in at least one of Java and/or Python
  • Experience with common data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems
  • Knowledge of backend services and integrations and microservice architecture  
  • Knowledge of software development lifecycles, especially agile & dev/ops methodologies
  • Strong communication skills – ability to articulate concepts and creative solutions
  • Understanding of cable business and key telecom services/technologies (video, data, voice, home security/automation/IOT, DOCSIS, GPON, IP networking/security, web services) is a plus.
  • Experience in API testing and testing tools like Postman, Jmeter, Rest-Assured is a plus.
  • Experience with Dev/Ops, SRE, containerization, virtualization, cloud (AWS/Azure) concepts and tools is a plus.
