Rogers is seeking a Sr. 5G System Engineer – Site Configuration Standards and Guidelines for the RAN Engineering and Innovation Department. You will have opportunity to apply your superior analytical skills and in depth wireless technical knowledge, to create standards and guidelines and provide direction to Engineering teams that are responsible for day-to-day application. You will be accountable for standardization of cell site and in-building system RF components, eNodeB / gNodeB hardware configurations, and best practise engineering guidelines. You will collaborate with RF equipment and Radio Access Network manufacturers, other internal Engineering teams and project stakeholders to develop these standards and guidelines. This position reports to the Manager, Site Configuration Standards and Guidelines.
Job Descriptions and Responsibilities:
- Cell site and in-building system RF component standardization
- Interface with RF active and passive component manufacturers to select high quality components as demanded for the Rogers wireless network deployment with consideration for upcoming wireless network technology advancements
- Antenna system standard configurations for outdoor sites including macro sites and small cells for optimum wireless network user experiences
- Distributed antenna system, and small cell standard configurations for in-building applications including high traffic venues such as major league sports arenas and stadiums, to satisfy indoor coverage and capacity demands
- Assist each Region as required cell site and in-building system RF component related queries.
- eNodeB / gNodeB hardware and configuration standardization
- Collaborate with RAN manufacturer, other internal Engineering teams and project stakeholders to develop high performance eNodeB / gNodeB standard configurations and deploy latest RAN equipment offerings to best use of current and upcoming RAN software performance and capacity features. The aim is to provide optimum wireless network user experiences including in high traffic major league sports venues
- Participations in technological discussions to prepare and then migrate for wireless network evolutions such as C-RAN and subsequent Virtualized RAN and X-RAN. These all involve alignment of eNodeB / gNodeB hardware and configuration with the front haul solution development for optimum network performance and capacity
- Assist each Region as required with eNodeB /gNodeB hardware and configuration related queries
- Best practice engineering guidelines
- Collaborate with other internal Engineering teams and project stakeholders to develop best practice engineering guidelines
- Assist each Region as required with best practise engineering guideline related queries
Teamwork
- Assist in developing best practice engineering guidelines, devise new approaches, conduct technical studies and improve standard engineering processes
- Collaborate with project stakeholders from other engineering disciplines e.g. Technology Development, Regional RF Engineering groups, Planning, PMO, Operations and NOC, etc
- Project management, planning and resource management
Leadership
- Training of new and existing staff. Review work for technical accuracy and adequacy
- Responsible for establishing best practice engineering guidelines to support the release of Regional RF Engineering activities
Reporting
- Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
- Work effectively with equipment manufacturers, other internal Engineering team and project stakeholders, and provide executive level professional presentations of engineering results and recommendations
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years experience in wireless telecom industry
- University Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Telecommunications)
- Professional Engineering designation preferred
- Strong understanding and experience working on UMTS/HSPA/LTE indoor systems and outdoor networks including Radio Access Network software performance and capacity features, and eNodeB hardware and configurations
Requirements:
- Graduate of a post-secondary engineering program
- Minimum five years experience working in wireless telecom industry
- Highly motivated individual with superior organizational and analytical skills
- Excellent writing, communication and presentation skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of electro-magnetic field theory, radio-frequency propagation, transmitter/receiver systems, RF antennas, cell sites, and in-building systems
