Who we are looking for:
Rogers is looking for a skilled and innovative Senior Enterprise IP Network Planner to design and implement solutions for Enterprise Networks, specifically focusing on Enterprise Business Service Provider Networks, Wireless Enterprise Solutions, and LAN/WAN integration.
This position primarily supports the deployment of complex wireless projects and also offers opportunities for professional growth, driven by your initiative and capabilities. A critical component of this role includes designing and deploying LAN integration strategies for private LTE/5G networks, catering to Rogers’ industrial and mining sector clients.
Reporting to the Senior Manager of Advanced Service Architecture & Integration, where you’ll bring deep technical knowledge in Service Provider Enterprise Networks and Wireless Private Network Solutions.
What you’ll do:
- In this senior planning role, the successful candidate will operate within a broad engineering domain, covering technologies such as Internet, MPLS-VPN, and other IP-based services. Responsibilities include assisting in the development of engineering plans and standards, identifying opportunities for network optimization, and ensuring all specifications meet established quality benchmarks.
- The Senior Enterprise IP Network Planner will contribute to a variety of projects, with a strong emphasis on Enterprise IP Services.
- Key duties involve assessing network performance, integrating new sites and devices, and supporting the continual evolution of Rogers' IP infrastructure.
- As a key member of the Advanced Service Architecture & Integration team, you'll play an essential role in delivering cutting-edge solutions and outstanding customer experiences.
- Participate in the development of the architectural design of new features and enhancements.
- Develop and produce suitable Engineering Design Specification, Engineering Planning Specification. and support the defined services and products within the established architecture and security policies.
- Represent the department by coordinating with peer departments such as Product Development, other planning groups, Implementation, IT, and Network
- Operations to ensure effective planning and efficient implementation and hand-over between departments.
- Execute and document the necessary testing requirements to evaluate the proposed designs and to validate the technology platform or systems, as well as any new IOS versions (laboratory, network verification, operational readiness), and provide recommendation to Network Operations for Production deployment.
- Identify and devise new and novel approaches and methodologies relative to established guidelines to effectively manage technical, product, or business risks.
- Participate and contribute to the development of the 3-5-year roadmap and evolution.
- Accurately determine capital and operating expenses and obtain required approval for budget funding. Manage spending to budget and manage cost overrun issues.
- Provide Tier 5 & 6 engineering support to Network Planning and Operations, and Enterprise Customers
- Provide regular project status and issues for escalation.
What you bring:
- Minimum 5 years of technical experience with a major Internet Service Provider (MSO or Telco) and direct involvement in building large communications networks
- Knowledge of Soft Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) technologies
- Graduated with an undergraduate University degree in Engineering or Computer Science
- Cisco CCIE certification (Routing & Switching) or equivalent will be preferred.
- Alcatel Lucent NRSII will be an asset.
- VMware, Azure Certification and Kubernetes would be an asset.
- Expertise in architecting and designing IP/MPLS network solutions for Service Provider and Carrier-grade environments.
- Proven experience in managing complex, large-scale WAN and multi-site telecommunications infrastructures.
- Hands-on knowledge of protocols and technologies including IP Multicast, Multicast-VPNs, BGP, OSPF, BGP-VPNs, VLL, and VPLS.
- Strong background in MPLS networks: VPLS, VPRN, Martini tunnels, LDP, RSVP-TE, FRR, VRRP, VLANs, LSPs, 802.1Q/p/x, DSCP, and internetworking.
- In-depth understanding of multicast protocols: PIM-DM, PIM-SM, MBGP, MOSPF, MSDP, SSM, IGMPv3, CGMP.
- Solid grasp of network security, virtualization, and common application architecture.
- Familiarity with application-layer protocols such as DNS, SMTP, HTTP/S, POP3, IMAP4, NNTP, NNRP, and SSH.
- Experience with VMware, Linux/Windows OS, Red Hat RHEL, Docker, containers, YAML, and NETCONF/YANG modeling.
- Knowledge of 3GPP Evolved Packet Core (vEPC, HSS, MME, SGW, PGW).
- Working experience with Fortinet firewalls and other major firewall platforms.
- Familiarity with Cisco UCS, Dell, HPE, and Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI) platforms.
- Proficient in scripting with Bash and Python.
- Exposure to monitoring and alerting tools like Prometheus.
- Experience with automation tools such as Puppet and Chef.
