Reporting to the Manager, Wireless & Wireline Platforms Engineering, the Senior Network Designer will work as senior Subject Technical Matter Expert (SME) to drive the design, development, testing, engineering, implementation and evolution for Wireless and Wireline Voice Core platforms and services.


What you will be doing:

  • Collaborate with technical and non-technical teams and utilize system expertise to deliver technical solutions.
  • Contribute to the development of others through mentoring or in-house workshops and learning sessions.
  • Provide project and program management for efforts within the realm of Voice Core Network including business costs/benefit analysis; budget / CA funding approval.
  • Work with Network Engineering leadership and management to take day-to-day ownership of processes and procedures necessary to effect Voice Services/Network initiatives and deliverables, from architecture design through vendor selection, lab testing, FOA/instantiation, and rollout. Provide clear, concise, and regular communication of status to vendors, peers, management, and leadership.
  • Author technical engineering documentation (eg. Engineering Design Specification Documents, Acceptance Test Plans, Roadmap Plans, Work orders and Method of Procedures (MoP) which facilitates configuration changes, software/hardware upgrades, validations, E2E service testing and platform integration)
  • Influence Wireless and Wireline Voice technology and policy decisions made across the appropriate functional organization around architecture, design strategies and standards.
  •  Able to review, understand and enforce implementation of relevant standards (such as 3GPP, IETF, Cable Labs, TM Forum), during Solution design phase.
  • Maintain list of portable locations (LNP) across Canada for all Rogers lines of business and act as the primary Rogers contact for numbering aspects of Local Number Portability.
  • Development of appropriate traffic routing to accommodate the deployment of new network services.
  • Provide ongoing optimization of network routing resulting in cost savings.
  • Technical Leader related to the deployment of new platforms, services and applications, including lifecycle management.
  • Manage Vendors to design, deploy, and integrate their portion of the solution, including: reviewing quotes and scope of work documents, requirements and design specifications, acceptance test plans and test results. Assist coordinating Vendor activities with required departments


What you have:

  • Minimum 10 years of technical experience delivering large scale projects, with multiple vendors, and functional teams on Wireless and Wireline Voice Networks
  • Bachelor degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or Computer Science or related discipline.
  • Expert knowledge on Ribbon C20/D20 and Ericsson MSC platforms.
  • Telephony network routing and services (Local, Toll, AIN, Toll-Free, LNP, etc.)
  • Translations of core switching technologies (Ribbon/Nortel, Ericsson MSS, IMS, etc), engineering parameters and peripherals
  • Expert knowledge of Canadian Numbering architecture and requirements.
  • Expert knowledge of Canadian Voice Interconnection architecture and requirements.
  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian LNP architecture.
  • Strong hands-on experience of Dial Plan architecture and Number Administration.
  • In-Dept knowledge of Network traffic scripting in Wireless and Wireline environments.
  • Knowledgeable of Telecom Industry standards and forums, such as 3GPP, IETF, Cable Labs, TM Forum, …
  • Known as an exceptional communicator, trusted partner and collaborator with a strong customer focus who motivate and influence a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong decision-making, consensus building and conflict resolution skills.
  • A continuous improvement mindset to drive improvements to the process and team performance.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
