Rogers is seeking a WAN Senior Network Planner. You will leverage your Cable Telecommunications knowledge and experience along with your exceptional analytical, written, and verbal communication skills to support WAN initiatives and our internal customers. You will play an important role in helping to shape Wireline network direction and functionality. The primary focus of this position is Construction Standards and Engineering related to HFC and PON Access Network.

 

The general focus of this position is ‘Hybrid Fibre Coax’ and ‘Passive Optical Network’ Access network between service platform (e.g. DTV, DOCSIS, PON) in the ‘headend’ and customer devices. Team scope may include budgeting, cost/scenario modeling, HFC lab, equipment testing and qualification, RFQs/RFPs, Design and Planning Specifications, application rules, guidelines, construction/installation standards, training support, new technology introduction, support for groups such as technology development & strategy, finance, OPE, NI, NOC, Maintenance, Service, Regulatory, publishing Tech Notes - Tech Bulletins – Standards.

 

What you will be doing:

  • Actively participate in short to mid-range planning
  • Adopt opportunities to extend existing/emerging technologies to meet anticipated network, business and customer needs
  • Assume the lead role on complex engineering projects or lead a number of smaller, less complex projects
  • Designs, develops and evaluate plans and criteria for a variety of engineering projects or activities
  • Ensure that new specifications or plans have been engineered to acceptable standards
  • Perform as senior specialist in a complex area of engineering
  • Ensure you are current on technology, industry and market trends and understand potential impact
  • Work on problems that are complex and sometimes involve issues that have not been encountered before where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangibles
  • Conduct and sometimes leads complex projects and teams requiring specialized knowledge.
  • Provide technical advice and guidance and coaches others through issues
  • Facilitate decision-making of management on technical issues
  • Present and communicates information on technology matters
  • Provide engineering support for Network and other department problem cases/RCAs (including technology testing, approval, and support)
  • Provide engineering technical notes, bulletins, guidelines, standards, and specifications
  • Perform field support as required
  • Foster and support the development of training programs
  • Perform lab work as required
  • Research and complete programs/projects
  • Support new technology introduction and associated knowledge transfer (including research, development, application, RFQ/RFP support, specifications, guidance, documentation, processes, costing, training, sparing, implications to Network and other departments, etc.).
  • Testing & verification of upgrades, enhancements.
  • Topology, capacity & configuration specifications.


What you will bring:

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience
  • Advanced engineering knowledge in planning and conducting projects having scope for independent accomplishment and coordination of difficult/complex assignments with others
  • Experience in conducting complex projects requiring specialized knowledge/skill
  • An understanding of advanced technological developments
  • Very strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to complete and present varied engineering assignments
  • Ability to work effectively within teams and independently
