Rogers is seeking a Sr. Capacity Planner for the Cable Access Planning to support various initiatives.  Reporting to the Manager of Cable Access Network Planning at the Rogers Park Brampton Campus, this role requires leveraging Cable/Wireline knowledge and experience to provide detailed analysis and modelling of the current Cable Access network, and the development of future Wireline plant.  The individual in this role will play an important part in shaping the future of the Wireline Access Network.

 

The general focus of this team is to plan access elements at the headend and field. Primary service platforms include DOCSIS/PON/OLT, Remote-Phy, DOCSIS and other access technologies. Team scope of work includes long-term and short-term planning, and budgeting related to new technology introduction, Planning Specifications, guidelines, support for groups such as operations, network security, and new product.

 

What you will be doing…

  • Capacity planning and management of wireline access platforms; issue planning specs to be used for capacity planning of access systems in the field.
  • Assist in creating DOCSIS/PON budget based on needs and capacity requirements.
  • Cost/scenario modelling for the DOCSIS/PON platform, including capacity impacts.
  • Long and Short-range planning.
  • Works on complex engineering projects or leads several large complex projects.
  • Provide regular capacity reports.
  • Collaborate with other teams for testing, qualification of new access technologies.
  • Represents Cable Access Planning in meetings with Regional Teams, Business Units, Finance, and Technology teams.
  • Acts independently to determine methods and procedures on new assignments.
  • Provides technical advice and coaches project teams through technical issues.
  • Authoring and editing Engineering Planning Specifications, and other technical documentation
  • Guide and coach other planners in the Cable Access Planning team

 

What you will have…

  • Engineering degree (or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 6 years experience in the industry, DOCSIS/PON related.
  • Budgeting experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with DOCSIS/PON, triple-play services.
  • Acquaintance to OLT configuration, AGW/DGW, Cable modems will be an asset.
  • Current on technology industry and market trends.
  • Understands potential impacts of work to other areas.
  • Understands technological developments.
  • Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Good presentation skills and ability to present information on technology matters.
  • Understanding of all aspects (engineering, planning, design) of wireline access core service platforms.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to breakdown complex problems into smaller logical tasks
  • Experience in managing multiple, simultaneous complex projects.
