Who we’re looking for:
Reporting to the Manager of Transport Operations, the Senior Transport Operations Specialist is responsible for ensuring the quality and reliability of the Transport Network and for effectively, maintaining and supporting the Transport network elements which support the DWDM backbone Access and Core, Fiber, and Synchronization Timing networks at Rogers, while ensuring network SLA commitments are achieved.
What you’ll do:
- Provide 24x7 on call Tier 3 network technical support and fault management of critical and non-critical incidents to internal departments such as NMC, Provisioning, Regional Operations and Sales organizations.
- Interface with vendor Technical Assistance Centre’s for assistance in resolving escalated network outages, chronic customer issues and network performance issues.
- Manage maintenance window planned, and non-planned transport activities as required.
- Liaison with network engineering to ensure network anomalies are addressed in accordance with criticality
- Implement engineering specifications for software, hardware and feature upgrades
- Operational acceptance of new software and hardware before it is deployed in the network, including the design and execution of a test plan ensuring Wireline Access Networks requirements are met.
- Enhance network security through user administration of all transport network elements.
- Administer and deploy network element backup policies as part of preventive maintenance routines to ensure effective recovery of systems in emergency situations.
- Run weekly and monthly performance reports and provide in depth analysis of metrics that do not meet SLA’s.
- Perform proactive analysis of statistical data to identify potential fault trends and utilization issues and action accordingly.
- Represent Team at project meetings to ensure effective integration of new technologies or enhancements of existing equipment.
- Working and supporting the Transport team in project plans.
- Keeping track of Issues on the Projects and running KPI.
- Compile investigation reports for critical network incidents and customer related issues.
- Create training plan and documentation and facilitate training to internal departments.
What you bring:
- Degree in Electronics/Telecommunications or equivalent academic qualification
- Minimum of 5-10 years’ experience in a telecommunication MSO environment in a supervisor or management capacity
- Knowledge of the following would be an asset: SONET, DWDM, Fiber Technology, Synchronization, WAN/LAN internetworking principles & practices, CISCO 15454 SDH, Alcatel Pss32,PHM, Sam/Tellabs DACS,
- Knowledge of current and evolving Network Management principles, protocols, and architectures
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership to a highly skilled technical team including performance guidance & evaluation, resource scheduling, coaching and mentoring
- Proven ability to provide guidance and remain flexible & focused in a highly stressful and dynamic environment
- Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills supported by strong organizational skills.
- Ability to make effective decisions and to carry out work within broad guidelines.
- Ability to work efficiently and independently in high stress situations.
- Highly adaptive and flexible to changing environments and priorities.
- PC literate including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite - XP, Microsoft Access, FTP, SFTP, Telnet, and a broad familiarity of scripting.
- Well-versed in the latest technology offerings, capabilities and trends.
- Core competencies should include integrity, accountability, innovative, adaptable, teamwork, and initiative and customer service orientated.
- PC literate including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite – XP & NT, UNIX, FTP, Telnet, C++, TL1 and Scripting.

This is a hybrid work position and will require you to be in office three days per week.
