Reporting to the Director Platform Engineering, the Sr. Manager Database Services position is critical role evolving our technology landscape. The role requires significant day-to-day interactions with the Rogers’ senior leadership and close collaboration with business units. To be successful, the candidate requires strong technical, financial, delivery skills as well as an ability to work in a high paced environment managing diverse activities.

 

What you will be doing:

  • Lead and promote strategic direction of IT Database Technologies
  • Manage the team of IT database technologies for both full time and vendor engagements
  • Complete annual execution planning including budget, technology and workforce management to ensure stable, available and secure environment
  • Provide strategic database solutions based on business requirements and provide direction to the team on day-to-day activities
  • Close collaboration with colleagues across the organization in business, IT and Digital
  • Ensure smooth and efficient operations within a very large and complex environment
  • Lead technical design and implementation of database technologies both on-prem and public cloud:
  1. Functions include public and private cloud, datacenters, networks, servers, cloud infrastructure, platform services, databases and storage
  2. Proven and Demonstrated, in-depth knowledge of structured and non-structured database architecture, administration and distributed computing.
  3. Keep up to date with best practices in existing and upcoming database technologies and recommend new solutions or process improvement opportunities.
  • Act as technical lead during incident management by setting priorities and resolving technical issues
  • Be accountable to for team resolution of accountable systems and create action plans to provide long term sustainability
  • Enable and support the strategy, vision and business objectives of IT
  • Implement and maintain database platform and operational security by developing policies, procedures, and controls to insure appropriate use access throughout the organization
  • Improve current Standards, Consolidation, Backup and Recovers, Disaster Recover strategy for Database environments
  • Evaluates and recommends new technologies to improve the DB and MW team operational efficiency for SLT
  • Analyze capacity and performance requirements


What you have:

  • 10+ years of experience in Consulting &/ strategy
  • Degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Strong business sense to help drive prioritization decisions
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
  • Strong relationship skills with the ability to balance multiple stakeholders and agendas simultaneously
  • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills
  • Strong financial and business acumen
  • Passionate to drive change
  • Knowledge of Rogers' management processes preferred
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
