The Operations DTV Services organization is responsible for operation and administration of Advance Video distribution network that consist of an IP routing network, content delivery network and appliances required to deliver Video related services. This forces us to pro-actively interact with a variety of platforms for the purpose of Fault, Configuration, Accounting and Performance Management. The Systems Administrator (Senior Service Specialist) will be responsible for the administration and maintenance of multi OS systems (I.e. Linux) and video appliances.


What you will be doing:

  • Candidate will be required to support the following;
    • Red hat/CentOS Linux
    • Transport and Video equipment
    • Various server models and appliances
  • New Product / New Technology Introduction (NPI/NTI);
    • Manage the day-to-day operations of production equipment.
    • Develop and perform routine maintenance activities.
    • Provide recommendation and solution using automation/scripting where possible for operational efficiencies and reporting.
    • Ensure various technical resources of the operations groups are ready for NPI/NTI. Such technical aspects include:
      • Detailed review of the engineering architecture and design to gain full understanding of the technology / product.
      • Research and recommend tool / automation requirements to support the new platforms.
      • Transform architectural concepts and engineering designs into practical and tangible day-to-day operational guidelines, procedures and practices, conduct orientation and training sessions to operations personnel to allow them to maximize their understanding and enhance their ability to absorb knowledge during training programs.
  • Problem Management: Identify, research and implement fixes for chronic failure mechanisms affecting the Rogers Video services.
  • Change Management Procedure Development: Collaborate with other specialists in the development of the technical steps in the MOP (Method Of Procedure) required to effectively implement complicated high risk changes to production service platforms.
  • Point of Contact for Technical Escalations:
    • Act as Tier 4 technical escalation within Network Operations to address service impacting outages arising from technically challenging problems.
    • Senior technical resource within the team for service specialists to escalate and interact with for support.
  • Vendor Relationship on Technical Issues: Interact with the vendors on chronic failure mechanisms with an aim to derive underlying root causes. Manage implementation of fixes and recommendations.
  • Liaise with Engineering on future technology roadmaps and evolution, and on retirement tactics for end of life platforms.
  • Adhere to all policy and legal requirements under Health and Safety legislation

What you will have:

  • 3-5 years of experience in Linux systems administration
  • Experience within video services environment strongly preferred.
  • Experience within telecommunications environment is a definite asset.
  • Must possess strong knowledge of:
    • MPEG2 and MPEG4 (H.264)
    • Virtualization (VMware)
  • Experience with scripting languages and automation mythologies is strongly preferred
  • Ability to identify root causes on integration and inter-operability issues that affect the stability and performance of the video services in the production environment.
  • Ability to take intelligent risk and encourage/foster this trait in others.
  • Ability to seek and translate available data from support systems into critical information and opportunities.
  • Strong ability to manage conflicting priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment, in an organized, methodical and pleasant manner.
  • Ability to express a passion for the organization’s customers, stakeholders and peers.
  • Well-versed in the latest technology offering, capabilities and trends.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license in the province of Ontario.
