Rogers is seeking a Senior Big Data DevOps Lead - for development, deployment and support of Big Data solutions. Reporting to the Manager, Data Services & DevOps at the Rogers Park Brampton Campus, this individual will be responsible for Designing and Developing Big Data solutions, as well as leading a team of DevOps resources and vendors to successfully deliver projects while maintaining system stability.


What you will be doing…

  • Design, build and test scalable and highly available Big Data ETL, analytical, machine learning and other Big Data solutions
  • Design, build and test integration interfaces between Big Data platform and external systems (API-based and other)
  • Participate in Joint Application Design (JAD) sessions to create / review solution designs.
  • Leads in identifying and evaluating solution requirements; analyzes and recommends feasible options; design, develop, test and implements solutions to meet business objectives and client needs
  • Apply concepts, industry research, best practices and agile methodologies and tools (Jira, Confluence) to implement Big Data solutions
  • Overseeing vendor delivery of solution design and code to follow standards.
  • Help with project test strategy and test plan, including unit test, integration test, system test and performance test;
  • Support the development of data mining and machine learning applications
  • Support PoC and lab technology innovation initiatives
  • Work collaboratively with all levels of business and IT stakeholders to understand complex data relations and business requirements and implement and test Big Data solutions
  • Manage relationships and expectations with Stakeholders.


What you have…

  • 3+ years of production experience working and supporting cross-functional project teams – clients, developers, solutions design, production support, 3rd parties and vendors
  • 3+ years of production experience in Hadoop application development, installation, deployment, performance tuning, configuration, and optimization
  • 3+ years of experience with Hadoop technologies such as HDFS, Hive, Spark, Sqoop, Ambari, Kafka, Tez, Yarn, Pig, Flume, etc.
  • 1+ years experience working with data solutions on Cloud environments - AWS, Azure.
  • Strong knowledge of the following technologies: Data Lake, HDInsight, Data Factory, building applications in Azure
  • Production experience and in-depth understanding of Hadoop Big Data ecosystem and best practices (Hortonworks is preferred)
  • Experience in Telecommunication industry would be an asset
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Highly motivated and very proactive individual, dedicated to follow-up/follow through without reliance on management for direction
  • Excellent written, verbal communication, presentation and facilitation skills, with demonstrated ability to interact and communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • A degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related field


Nice to Have…

  • Big Data certification (Cloudera, Hortonworks, IBM, or other)
  • Working knowledge of Informatica, Microstrategy, Power BI, Tableau, SAS
  • Knowledge of programming and scripting languages, particularly, BASH, Python, etc.
  • Experience with Analytics, Predictive Modeling, Machine learning applications would be an asset
  • Experience with agile software development
  • DevOps tools experience including Git, Jenkins amongst others
