City Calgary has an incredible opportunity for you to be a member of Calgary’s Breakfast Television on City.  We are looking for a personable and dynamic Host whose primary objective is to engage our audience through the delivery of news and information, conducting interviews, producing news stories, and interacting with our talented on-air talent. You will also be required to maintain an active social media profile and represent our team at community events.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Presents scripted and unscripted news coverage live on-air from remote locations and/or in-studio environment
  • Non-scripted live reporting
  • Screens and selects footage from internal and external libraries and other resources
  • Gathers and verifies factual information regarding stories through interviews, observation, and research
  • Review scripts for accuracy
  • Organizes material and writes engaging, relevant and concise news stories under tight deadlines
  • Research and develop local news story ideas   
  • Assist in program production (selecting videotape, preparing information for show rundowns, etc.)
  • Provide regular updates using various social media resources
  • Develop a network of contacts for stories, focusing on the community
  • Participation in station driven community events
  • Other unspecified duties may be required

 

Qualifications:

  • Degree/Diploma from a recognized post-secondary Radio/Television broadcasting program
  • Five years of experience in broadcast journalism or related experience
  • Three years of experience in television hosting/anchoring or reporting
  • Some editorial experience required
  • Ability to ad-lib
  • Experience presenting weather forecasts and traffic reports is an asset
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication and emotional intelligence skills required
  • Proven ability to work as a member of a team
  • Must be able to multi-task and deliver under tight deadlines
  • Ability to be flexible in a changing work environment
  • Knowledge of social media updating (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.)
  • Must be willing to participate in promotional and charity events
  • Being active in one or more local community organizations is an asset
  • Must have experience with teleprompter
  • Good facility with computers and with Windows-based software
  • Excellent knowledge of the cultural and political landscape of Calgary and the province
  • Must be very familiar with Canadian and international current affairs
  • Must be a morning person with a passion for news and outgoing personality!
