Who we’re looking for:
Access Transport Network Design and Provisioning Department is responsible for capacity management, design, and provisioning of the Core Transport Network to meet the needs of Wireline, Wireless, IT, Video, Media and voice and data services.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Access Transport Design and Provisioning, the Transport Infrastructure Specialist will be accountable for the National design, Implementation, Optimization, and Provisioning tasks. Such solutions may require multiple automation and reporting tools and strategies, using standard and non-standard access types, or cross-platform connectivity utilizing various Rogers Core/Access network assets.
What you’ll do:
- Maintain, monitor, and develop Access network capacity and network utilization reports to support tracking and reporting of vital network statistics for the purpose of effective transport network capacity management.
- Automation of simple and time-consuming tasks related with Access Transport Planning and Design activities following the Network DevOps models and newer automation tools.
- Own the requirements assessment and detailed Engineering plan design. Perform analysis and optimization of network, and recommendations for different transport technical options.
- Ensure that specifications/ plans have been engineered to acceptable standards.
- Issue engineering plans that clearly explain network capacity augments, customer requirements, and integration reconfigurations.
- Develop and present the engineering plans for transport network expansions/ upgrades in a timely manner to allow implementation to be within specification, on time and within budget.
- Ensure that engineering plans meet network needs in terms of reliability, capacity, and simplicity from transport operations perspective.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support service delivery and network expansion.
- Perform all technical and administrative tasks to ensure network availability is successfully maintained at its highest levels, including incident/problem resolution, supporting moves/adds/changes, and maintaining overall network health for Rogers Communications Inc. Optical infrastructure.
- Liaison with network engineering & PMO to ensure network anomalies are addressed in accordance with criticality.
- This position requires flexible, 24x7 on call network technical support and fault management of critical failures and non-critical problems to internal departments such as NOC (Network Operations), Implementation, Engineering and Service Delivery.
- Interface with vendor Technical Assistance Centre’s for assistance in resolving escalated network outages, chronic customer issues and network performance issues.
- Administer and deploy network element backup policies as part of preventive maintenance routines to ensure effective recovery of systems in emergency situations.
- Install, configure, and test optical network elements. Perform system turn-up and validations using Netsmart, WS-NOC, Muse, MCP, Virtuora etc. to ensure optimal provisioning and performance.
- Implement engineering specifications for software, hardware, and feature upgrades.
What you bring:
- Education should include undergraduate university degree in Software/ Electrical engineering or community college diploma with CET certification or equivalent.
- 3-10 years of work experience with Telecom Service Provider/ Cable Operator/ Hyperscaler environment would be an asset.
- Design, Operation, and provisioning experience of Ciena, Nokia, Fujitsu, and Ribbon transport Nodes would be required. Working knowledge of FTP, Telnet, SSH, TL1 Scripting.
- Knowledge of Fiber Optic, SONET, DWDM, CWDM, OTN, CDC, IP/OSPF/WAN/LAN, Ethernet. Working knowledge of the design and implementation of telecom carrier network services such as Local/ LD Voice, Private Lines, GbE, Internet, MPLS.
- Proven problem and troubleshooting skills and ability to remain focused during emergency restorations of failed services. Proven communication, analytical, organizational, and decision-making skills to access situations quickly and make informed decisions.
- Knowledge and ability to learn new Automation and reporting tools like Alteryx, VBA, Python, Ansible, API, Power Query, Power BI, Microsoft Automate etc. to align with Network DevOps Model.
- Knowledge in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Visio, Access), BPI, Netcracker, Service Now, Jira, ADM/ OneVizion would be an asset.
