We are looking for a News Director to lead our CityNews team in Calgary. 


Do you care about the people you work with just as much as you do local news? Are you passionate about helping develop the next generation of storytellers? Are you an experienced journalist who is comfortable working across platforms? If this sounds like you, we would love you on our team. 


What you will do… 

  • Set the editorial direction of TV, radio and digital news content to ensure stories are targeted to each specific platform, the Calgary audience, all while ensuring a consistent experience for news consumers  
  • Lead change and innovation in editorial content and news programming to increase competitive position, ratings, and revenue 
  • Provide leadership on journalistic, ethical, and legal decisions 
  • Lead development of a positive, creative internal culture, consistent with Rogers and CityNews values 
  • Constantly monitor performance and trends with an eye to improve market position to deliver on the CityNews mandate  
  • Increase, improve and manage integrated editorial efforts with other Rogers Sports & Media news platforms 
  • Create and manage revenue opportunities in news content through sponsorships and ratings  
  • Build a strong network within Alberta to help build the CityNews brand  
  • Coaching talent to develop a best-in-class team, and helping to develop supervising producers and managing editors  


What you will bring…

  • Deep experience in news, including experience on numerous platforms (eg. TV, radio, digital)

  • Proven track record in developing and growing content brands 
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills to effectively deal with multiple stakeholders, and excellent editorial judgment 
  • Proven ability to make business decisions based on analysis of ratings & research data 
  • Strong ability to influence stakeholders
