660 NEWS is seeking a News Director to motivate and lead a team of media professionals.  Reporting to the National Format Director, News, this individual will use their experience, enthusiasm and vision to develop innovative and compelling news programming that is relevant to listeners in the changing media environment.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute programming strategies and initiatives to deliver ratings and revenue
  • Guide the editorial direction of news content on a daily basis
  • Ensure content is credible, creative and consistent
  • Understand the overall news vision and implement strategic and tactical plans
  • Expand and extend station brand across all platforms including web, social and video
    • Develop synergies with other Rogers properties including CityNews, OMNI, Sportsnet, radio and publishing
    • Manage a news team including coaching and feedback using one on ones and ongoing performance reviews
    • Evolve and maintain an assignment system to organize and co-ordinate news ensuring priority stories receive prominent coverage
  • Recruit and retain talented employees
  • Manage and administrate daily tasks in the newsroom including shift and vacation scheduling
  • Build and maintain a positive culture in the newsroom

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years in radio news or a related field
  • Minimum 3 years in management or supervisory role
  • Highly effective leader able to rally a diverse group of individuals toward a common cause
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with excellent editorial judgment
    • Strong multi-tasking skills, ability to work well under deadline pressure while balancing demands from multiple properties
  • Computer and social media competency a must; BURLI News software experience an asset
  • A degree or diploma from a Broadcast Journalism program or related experience
