Rogers is seeking a Linux/Windows System Administrator to join the team. 

 

What you’ll do:

  • Demonstrate the ability to take on any system administrative task and deliver with high system quality and low failure rates, given suitable background or learning opportunity and reasonable direction.
  • Implement, analyze, and enhance system operations in line with operational precepts and in conjunction with additional operations teams.
  • Employ and operate automated monitoring on development, integration, prep-production and production environment.
  • Lead in the adherence to DevOps guidelines and practices.
  • Provide on-call support as required.
  • Collaborate in a constructive manner with software development and software verification teams using the Agile SCRUM methodology.
  • Participate in code reviews in a meaningful and impactful manner with review comments on design and code reviews.
  • Understand all system platforms that will be used to deliver the developed software (e.g. web servers, application servers, databases)
  • Research and promote new technologies, solutions and/or practices that could be applied in the delivery of software development projects.
  • Demonstrate competence in core skills relevant to the team’s mandate.
  • Demonstrate expert understanding of both the overall software architecture, and how all parts of the Dreamgallery software system are constructed and operated.
  • Demonstrate creativity in finding solid and efficient technical solutions, coming up with new ideas, finding ways to make the team more effective, and so on.
  • Independently make contributions to improving product and/or processes.  Network with others to refine, validate, plan, and execute approved improvements, under guidance from manager.
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with colleagues, SCRUM Masters, Guide System leadership, product stakeholders, vendors, and project management to keep everyone aligned, resolve issues, and encourage the flow of ideas.
  • Offer mentorship to junior colleagues and seek mentorship of others outside this team.
  • Undertake ongoing self-development to enhance hard and soft skills and stay current with industry best practices.
  • Follow all standard policies, procedures, and practices, such as time-off reporting, expense policies, punctuality, and meeting attendance.
     

What you bring:

  • 3+ years System Administration experience in a large-scale, multi-OS (Linux/Windows) high-availability environment required with knowledge of patch management, storage management and performance management
  • Experience setting up and regularly using monitoring and trending tools (Nagios, Splunk, etc.)
  • Experience with revision control systems and usage for managing systems configuration, GitHub, Mercurial, etc.
  • Experience with Oracle, SQL, MongoDB Databases
  • Experience with Vmware ESXi and vCenter
  • Familiarity with fundamental networking/distributed computing environment concepts; can configure NFS, key-based ssh; DNS; familiar with basic networking concepts: switching, routing, OSI network layers, firewalls, load-balancing at various layers, SMTP, HTTP, SSL, SSH, LDAP
  • A solid understanding of a UNIX-based operating system; understand paging and swapping, inter-process communication, devices and what device drivers do, filesystem concepts (LVM, clustering, logical partitions) as well as Windows-based operating systems; IIS configuration, services, authentication, policies. RDP.
  • Understanding of programming and scripting languages (bash, Python, ASP.NET)
  • Experience with automating processes and continuous integration.
