The Video Journalist position will be based in Calgary and will report to the Supervising Producer in Vancouver.



  • Pitch, chase, write, research and present stories on-air for national newscasts on OMNI with an emphasis on content for the South Asian community.   
  • Stay up-to-date on current events and issues important to the South Asian community with the goal of providing quick concise details of these stories on-air.
  • Attend daily content and programming meetings as well as contribute to creative brainstorms on new content including branded content development.
  • Gather facts/information while on location.
  • Conduct interviews.
  • Live on-camera reporting.
  • Shoot and edit assigned/self-assigned news and feature stories.
  • Produce daily news inserts and weekend edition as scheduled.
  • Adhere to Rogers editorial and production standards.
  • Perform a variety of crew positions in both a studio and field production environments.
  • Ensure that programs meet Rogers Media standards and contain appropriate content.
  • Create and produce program promotions, intros, bumpers, graphics etc.
  • Conduct vehicle checks and oversee vehicle maintenance/cleaning of the news vans.
  • Document, track and liaise with engineering department about equipment maintenance/repairs.
  • Other general newsroom duties as assigned.



  • Post-secondary diploma in television production, journalism and/or demonstrated production skills.
  • Familiarity with ENG/EFP and studio production including editing both linear and non-linear, camera work.
  • Fluent in Punjabi with ability to read/write/type in Gurmuhki is an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal and public relations skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Ability to work to standards with a good eye for detail.
  • Confidence in troubleshooting technical faults on-location and within the studio environment.
  • Command of on-air graphic systems and computer applications.
  • Valid drivers license and excellent driving and workplace safety records.
