As a Wireless Access Planner in the Network Planning team, the successful candidate will be responsible for the RF planning of the radio networks (GSM-EDGE/UMTS-HSPA/Wi-Fi and LTE) for Alberta and the Mid-West markets


Identify site capacity requirements:

·       -Analyze low capacity/low throughput sites for capacity planning or capacity optimization

·       -Interface with Radio Engineering for RF capacity optimization and track progress for implementation success

·       -Provide inputs for new capacity sites

·       -Issue related specification documents (LAO, DCR, etc)

·       -Plan, budget and initiate expansion/rollout projects to support network evolution and to meet growing subscriber demand

·       -Develop and analyze alternatives in order to recommend the most economical solution to meet departmental and organizational objectives regarding network expansion, subscriber growth and usage patterns.


Identify coverage needs:

·       -Coordinate with EBU, CBU and customer service to identify coverage requirements and priority network requirements

·       -Collaborate with Engineering groups for RF coverage optimization and track progress for implementation success

o   -Technical review of existing and forecasted network performance which includes gathering input from network statistics, RF Engineering, Network Operations as well as Marketing

o   -Work with RF Engineering to apply the appropriate actions to address any network capacity requirement and quality issues in a timely manner

o   -Collaborate with regional NI/EBU/CBU teams to develop Three Year Network Capital Plan

o   -Collaborate with Regional Network Implementation and RF team for support and guidance for site acquisition, lease and design issues.


Localize immediate and event capacity requirements:

·       -Identify sites requiring hot spot capacity

·       -Find technical solution for hot spot

·       -Cost estimate and CA for hot spots

·       -COW/COLT deployment.


Create site relocation plans:

·       -Analyze and issue site relocation plans

·       -Liaise with various teams on strategy, options, cost effective solutions

·       -Issue related Specification Documents (LAO, DCR, FB)

·       -Develop course of action to resolve capacity and technical issue within the access network. Provide comparison of costs and/or impact of these recommendations versus other options.



Experience and Education:

·       -University degree with 2-5 years of work experience or 7+ years of direct experience in a wireless environment.


Technical skills:

·       -Strong understanding of Wireless Network functionality and elements including the full scope of GSM/HSPA/LTE Radio Access

·       -Strong knowledge of HSPA and LTE capacity requirements and capacity KPIs

·       -Strong understanding of the RAN (Radio Access Network) capacity

·       -Familiarity with Ericsson and Huawei radio base station hardware and configurations

·       -Strong aptitude for research, data analysis and trend development.

·       -Strong planning and budget skills.

·       -Knowledge of Planet, MapInfo, TemsV, Windcatcher an asset

·       -Strong knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite.



·       -Ability to provide direction and guidance to internal and external groups.

·       -Specific background in projects involving multiple geographic regions, cross-functional teams

·       -Ability to manage and track project (or projects)

·       -Ability to operate autonomously, within general direction guidelines

·       -Highly motivated individual with superior organizational and analytical skills.
