Can you report the news?  Can you keep track of crazy traffic during a busy rush hour?  Then 570NEWS wants you to help us continue to grow as the leading voice of news and information in our community.  

 

We have an entry-level part-time position for a reliable self-starter who can work independantly, but also as part of a large, dynamic newsroom.  

 

You will be responsible for working on stories both in the studio, and out in the field, using apps to record, edit, report live when needed, and file completed stories.  

 

As a traffic reporter, you will provide live reports every ten minutes 'on the one's'. 

 

This position is flexible, and will also include filling in as a news anchor and a web editor.

 

570NEWS serves Waterloo Region, which includes Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, and a number of surrounding municipalities.  We are home to two of Canada's leading universities, with a thriving high tech sector, and an ever-growing population that wants to hear local news.

Responsibilities:

Cover assigned stories in a busy news/talk operation.

Track traffic problems using apps and regular contact with local police and the OPP. 

Keep up to date with major developing stories with the goal of providing quick concise details of these stories on-air.

Be able to tell stories on multi-platforms.

Develop story ideas.

Conduct and edit news interviews, write scripts and broadcast the finished product.

Anchor the news as required, especially durnig a dynamic news wheel shift in morning, afternoon, or weekend drive, plus midday updates.

Assist in other areas of our operation as required.

 

Qualifications:

Working knowlegde of Burli.

Minimum of 1 year broadcast experience in news radio.

Strong communications skills, both written and oral.

Detail oriented.

Ability to work in a fast paced environment.

Self-starter and energetic.

Must be able to take direction well.

Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
