We have an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic and transformational Merchandising and Revenue Team as a category Buyer. As we continue to operate our core business while also expanding our foray into new strategies for growth, this role will support our existing retail models while also supporting our rapid transformation to the new. In this role, you will be the subject matter expert on your category. You will leverage on customer insights, channel performance, financial considerations, technology and platform capabilities - to adapt and inform your recommendations. You will be responsible for identifying business opportunities, evaluating various partnerships and external considerations, understanding digital marketplace models and driving a Merchandise strategy in your category.

What you will do...

  • Oversee omni-channel Home sourcing and purchasing
  • Align with Director, Merchandising and / or buying manager to develop and strategies to meet or exceed all KPI’s (i.e. sales, gross profit) 
  • Drive the overall performance of you category, establishing and consistently communicating merchandising department objectives in support of TSC’s overarching merchandising strategy and channel specific strategies 
  • Partner with Merchandise Planning to profitably execute sales and inventory targets. This person will define and develop assortment growth opportunities in alignment with business objectives.
  • Make purchasing decisions including product availability, market trends, alignment with  strategies and financial targets, as well as leverage insights from peers in Trend, Marketing, Digital and Data team
  • Maintain merchandise vendor negotiations and relationships and gain a thorough understanding of partners who can add additional value to our offering (ie. marketing support, celebrity associations, PR opportunities ... etc.)
  • Vendor negotiations, protect TSC’s interest while establishing TSC as a tough but fair partner
  • Establish and manage product life cycles and inventory management to meet all KPIs
  • OTB management with Merchandising planning partner 
  • Align with Buying Director / Buying Manager, Merchandise Planning and Marketing team on promotion strategy and execution
  • Clarity on workflow and process to ensure timing communication of relevant information, samples procurement, and POs to cross functional teams to maximize team efficiency. 
  • Consistently keeping abreast of competitive marketplace from shopping network to multi-category retailers, DTC brands and beyond
  • Other duties as required

Live Broadcast channel (core business):

  • Develop and execute merchandise strategies for Live Broadcast channel
  • Track Financial KPls (Demand Sales, Gross Margins, Inventory)
  • Work collaboratively with the programming team to optimize live show approach, product selection, efficiency, and effectiveness at all times
  • Garner feedback from programming team, planning team to finetune product mix and depth

Digital channel (growth business):

  • Set strategy with digital merchandising team on categorization and attributes.
  • Partner and garner feedback from digital merchandising team on product assortment choice and presentation
  • Leverage digital data to inform assortment and brand choice. 


  • Provide ongoing coaching and development with direct reports
  • Succession planning
  • Perform individual team member annual performance reviews 
  • Follow up and action plans that emerge from performance reviews

What you will bring...

  • Expert knowledge in Canadian retail market
  • Previous Retail merchandise experience with demonstrated financial acumen 
  • Exceptional communication (verbal and written) and collaboration skills with both internal and external clients

  • Well-developed negotiation and vendor relationship skills
  • Innovative and strong creative problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with considerable autonomy
