This position is responsible for the efficient management of the technical operations of the Field Operations District, including all human resources issues, compliance with company, government and technical requirements, development and monitoring capital and expense budgets, project implementation and resolution of problems.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Coach and develop a team of network technicians.  Ensure the proper division of work, network element spares, network test equipment,  and adherence to the regional business plan
  • Participate in human resources matters; including recruitment, performance management, WCB claims administration, payroll and other general administrative issues.
  • Ensure that wireless network maintenance and operation is performed in accordance with established standards and that these functions support a consistently high quality wireless network for our customers. 
  • Administer all district maintenance subcontracts.
  • Direct the research and resolution of technical problems related to technical functions within the Field Operations District. 
  • Develop a controlled maintenance plan that stresses preventative maintenance to reduce equipment failures that may affect customer service. 
  • Develop and review contingency plans for catastrophic failures. 
  • Ensure all safety policies and procedures are followed by all team members.
  • Proactively interface and coordinate with other departments to facilitate major business projects such as network build and other commissioning activities.
  • Share responsibility for the regional network performance. 
  • Review network performance results with direct reports and assist with any outstanding problems. 
  • Ensure that all company, regional and departmental goals and results are communicated to all employees.
  • Review and approve routine invoices and matters related to capital and expense budget. 
  • Develop and monitor operating and capital budgets.

Qualifications

 

  • Post-secondary education in telecommunications or related field
  • Minimum 5 years related experience in telecommunications, preferably in several functional areas
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member
  • Experience in coaching and developing staff  would be an asset
  • Knowledge of  cellular/data technology, project management and budget preparation
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Proven analytical, problem solving and organizational ability.
  • Highly motivated and adaptable.
  • Excellent computer skills
