If you’re a graduate of a broadcast or journalism program with a keen sense of all things Montreal, this may be the posting you’ve been waiting for!  Breakfast Television Montreal on City is looking for a part-time Production Assistant.


We need someone punctual and enthusiastic. We need someone who builds relationships with key contacts and is ready to roll up their sleeves to do what it takes to present a dynamic, interesting and highly-watched morning show. The successful candidate will be hard-working, well-rounded and news savvy. They’ll have the ability to make quick, smart decisions, tackle multiple projects and still deliver on deadline.  As Production Assistant, you will work closely with our Associate Producer to ensure every episode of BT Montreal shines.  And you’ll do all of that before most people even get to their desks in the morning!

  • On set duties include:
    • greeting studio guests, confirming their names and titles and assist in setting up in studio;
    • helping to keep the set clean and tidy in between and after segments; and
    • preparing and posting materials to BT’s social media accounts during the show.
  • Writing the daily ticker, including news, sports, entertainment and history headlines.
  • Actively participating in daily post-production meetings.
  • Preparing the daily local entertainment segment.
  • Booking guests for show segments including preparing detailed booking sheets.
  • Generating ‘streeter’ segments, serving as the off-camera reporter for these as required.
  • Completing general office duties, reports and special assignments as required.
  • Meeting all legal and policy requirements under Health & Safety Legislation.
  • Tackling other duties as assigned by the Associate Producer and/or the Director of Operations.



  • Core Competencies:  Customer Service Oriented; Able to work in a team and collaborative environment; Adaptability to change; Must show initiative
  • Role Competencies: Able to solve problems immediately; Results oriented; Must be able to listen understand and respond as required
  • A degree in journalism, broadcasting, communications or other related discipline.
  • Exceptional English-language writing and communication skills. You must be able to relay information quickly and accurately.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is a must.
  • Ability to multi-task calmly and effectively, delivering under tight deadlines.
  • Highly motivated and able to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, creative and deadline-driven environment.
  • Excellent knowledge of Montreal’s people, neighbourhood, politics and culture.
  • Fluent in social media, with experience generating and posting content to multiple platforms.
  • Must be punctual and available to work early mornings.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Shooting, editing and on-camera skills will be considered assets.
