Technical Manager Service Expansion

As a Technical Manager Service Expansion in the Engineering team, the successful candidate will be responsible for the service expansion plans of the Wireless, FWA, PTP, PTMP, and Fibre/DOCSIS networks in Eastern Canada.      

Responsibilities Include:

  • Technical review of markets recommending the most economical last mile solution to maximize the revenue, while growing the wireline and wireless networks.   The network plan should be executable using existing and future network infrastructure and determining the best deployment for an area for the next 3,5,10 years.  The plan includes gathering input from appropriate business units, vendor capability, and annual growth models provided by the national teams.
  • Develop and analyze alternatives in order to recommend the most economical solution to meet departmental and organizational objectives regarding network expansion, subscriber growth and usage patterns.
  • Develop Three Year Network Capital Plan for Market and present the capital requests to senior leaders in organization for approval.
  • Recommend course of action to management to resolve capacity and technical issue within the wireless/wireline/FWA/PTMP/MW transport network. Provide comparison of costs and/or impact of these recommendations versus other options.
  • Collaborate with Regional Service Expansion and network teams to communicate priorities, support and guidance for site acquisition, GPON/DOCSIS deployments and to ensure timely delivery of planned programs.
  • Responsible for the design and planning of standard and new optical architecture, considering optical link reach, fibre design efficiency, network reliability, redundancy and scalability. 
  • Plan end-to-end fibre solution and/or provide instruction to support staff and engineering contractors for the successful delivery of plan. 
  • Review business requirements and engineering plans and deliver accurate and reliable last mile solutions including FWA/PTP/PTMP/DOCSIS/Fibre solution. 
  • Provide fibre network design alternatives in optimizing fibre network capability. 
  • Prepare full budgetary costing to include in CA’s which will lead to BOM and POs 



  • Experience and Education 
  • Minimum 10 years experience in wireless telecom industry
  • University Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Telecommunications)
  • Professional designation recommended


Technical skills

  • Strong understanding of Wireless Network functionality including Wireless/FWA/PTMP/MW transport and Wireline/DOCSIS architecture.   
  • Able to determine best last mile solution from cost/quality standpoint to serve underserved communities, creative solutioning for last mile solutions.   
  • Solutioning for FWA, Point to multi point, Microwave technologies, and GPON/DOCSIS deployments
  • Strong understanding of the RAN (Radio Access Network) capacity and optimization process
  • Strong aptitude for research, data analysis and trend development.
  • Strong planning and budget skills
  • Microsoft Office suite



  • Proven ability to lead and direct within department and provide direction and guidance to internal and external groups. 
  • Specific background in projects involving multiple geographic regions, cross-functional teams 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and track project (or projects) 
  • Ability to operate autonomously, within general direction guidelines.
  • Personal Competencies: Leadership; Problem Solving / Judgment; Customer Service Orientation; Teamwork and Collaboration; Initiative; Achievement Orientation.
  • Highly motivated individual with superior organizational and analytical skills.
