The VP, Access Networks and Operations, Quebec and Atlantic is a pillar, leading the team that plans, engineers, builds and operates all Rogers networks in the Quebec and Atlantic regions. We’re looking for a Leader who is both technical with a deep understanding of fixed and mobile networks and inspirational, to help Rogers build a brilliant digital future for all Canadians.


Reporting to the SVP, Access Networks and Operations, the Vice-President leads a team of Directors with an overall team of approximately 400 employees.


The Vice-President is accountable for all Network activities in the region. In addition to working with peers and senior leadership on the Technology team, this role will work extensively with senior leaders within the Rogers4Business, Wireless & Connected Home teams, regulatory and government affairs as well as regional and local governments to fully understand and react to regionally important Access Networks and operational issues and requirements.
This role requires extensive collaboration across a matrixed organization, including national teams which will be setting national priorities and program governance and standards/ guidelines.

 

As a result, the Vice-President must be able to influence decisions like the assignment of critical resources, and persuade others to adjust timelines to ensure regional operational and project requirements are completed. The outcome of successful influence and persuasion, in the face of competing business priorities, will be faster, more reliable networks provided more quickly to our customers.

This position will be located in Montreal, Quebec.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following duties:

  • Planning, engineering, implementing, optimizing and operating all networks in the region to meet specific key program deliverables. Within the region, this includes:
    • Network capacity management
    • Fibre construction & commissioning
    • Integrated fibre planning to leverage our assets across mobile and fixed networks 
    • Fibre restoration (24/7 response)
    • Switch site operations
    • Multi year wireless planning for existing network capacity management, new site build for coverage as well as small cell and inbuilding solutions. 
    • RF & equipment engineering required for wireless plans
    • Wireless & cable/fiber operations, including preventative and corrective maintenance
    • Wireless performance optimization
    • Accountable for the regional OPEX and CAPEX budgets
    • Accountable for key partner and vendor management
    • Strict governance of unit costs to ensure programs delivered to budget
    • Innovation
    • Collaboration with business startups and universities in particular around the development of the 5G ecosystem 

 

  • Lead the effort relating to land acquisition, real estate approvals and municipal permits to support Rogers network plans. Support municipal and government affairs activities within the region. 
  • Serving as the voice of the Network organization for the region; align with key local leaders within the Enterprise and Consumer sales teams 
  • Acting as the advocate of the region to the Access and overall Network team
  • Participating in Access Network leadership processes and communications. Driving alignment and collaboration with key interlock partners, including within the Network organization and with other business units (Finance, Consumer Business Unit and Enterprise Business Unit).
  • Delivering financial performance, including specific OPEX and CAPEX targets
  • Coaching and developing the Access regional management team
  • Inspiring and enabling talent within the overall team and promoting employee engagement across the organization

 

Ideal Experience:

 

  • 10+ years of working in the telecommunications industry, with both wireless & wireline network experience
  • 10+ years of working in a senior management position, preferably leading within a large organization
  • Extensive experience with network engineering, implementation and optimization with a focus on Network stability
  • Bilingual language skills (French and English)
  • Customer-driven, with experience leading teams through complex incidents and projects
  • Excellent presentation & communications skills, with experience presenting at the senior executive level, to customers, and to government agencies
  • Demonstrated business & financial acumen
  • Experience leading and improving an innovative, customer-focused, enthusiastic and business-oriented team
