The Current Affairs Assistant Editor, Ottawa Bureau will help define and champion our political and public policy cross-platform initiatives, working with words, data, maps and charts to find the best ways to present and enrich our digital storytelling.



  • Extensive collaboration with web team colleagues and newsroom managers, as well as reporters and videographers, to conceive and execute our ideas.
  • Constantly come up with stories, as well as innovative ways to tell them.
  • Write features, often driven by data, contribute to the reporting of Maclean's journalists and participate in larger newsroom-wide projects.
  • Use web analytics to continuously reshape and grow content



  • Post-secondary education in journalism or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Strong writing and editing skills are a must, as well as an instinct to tell stories creatively and differently.
  • Positive attitude, team-oriented spirit and strong work ethic.
  • Knowledge of and exposure to HTML and jQuery.
  • Experience with CSS frameworks, in particular knowledge of Foundation and Bootstrap.
  • Experience as a political reporter and digital producer would be an asset.
