Do you have a pulse on what the Ottawa area is talking about? Are you passionate about news, especially on digital and radio? Are you excited about building the next generation news team? CityNews has an exciting opportunity for you!

We are looking for a News Director to lead our CityNews Ottawa team.

What you will do…

  • Provide editorial leadership for content on all platforms including, digital, radio and talk radio.
  • Lead the transition to digital by extending the programming beyond radio to online and podcasting and help Rogers build the future of local news radio/audio/online.
  • Build and manage a high performing team through coaching, development and leadership.
  • Partner with Sales Manager & Commercial Integration Director to achieve financial targets.
  • Manage local programming operations and partner with sales to deliver revenue targets and hit local Contribution Margin budget.
  • Collaborate with leaders in other regions and platforms to maximize content sharing strategy.

What you will bring…

  • This is a leadership position. You should have a proven record of successful newsroom and people management. 
  • You know all phases of a news operation including but not limited to: digital, news reporting and writing newscast formats, news production, newsroom organization, talk shows and newsgathering technology
  • You will have an eye and an ear for great content and know what works for digital, radio, talk radio and broadcast.
  • You understand the difference between news and sales and know to work with sales to hit financial targets.
  • You have an ability to make connections across departments within the company and maintain positive connections with staff, management, clients, news sources and the general public
  • You are passionate about Canada and all of its the diverse communities and cultures. And you understand Ottawa’s unique place in the Canadian landscape.
  • You embrace challenges and change - and are constantly exploring new ideas and approaches to content and production.
  • You are an excellent communicator, especially in pressure situations.
  • News never stops and neither do you. You must be willing to work evening and weekends when needed.
