Head End Technician

As a member of the Headend team, you will be responsible for and participate in all activities in the Headend and associated facilities. These activities include preparing, packaging, and maintaining all services carried on the Rogers network.

 

What you will be doing:

  • Respond to trouble reports on the core transport and cable access network by performing effective and efficient problem analysis. Rapid trouble shooting and diagnosis, and prompt repair of equipment to ensure service restoral objectives are met.
  • Track and complete assigned incident tickets, participate in any postmortem incident root cause evaluations.
  • Collaborate with the network operations center and platform teams to resolve network faults.
  • Perform directed maintenance routines to ensure network standards are being met.
  • Implement change workorders associated with network equipment changes or additions within the headend.
  • Troubleshoot fiber optic network failures to determine possible impacts due to broken links leaving the headend.
  • Maintain inventory of spare equipment and test tools.  Request replenishment as needed.
  • Perform acceptance tests on newly installed equipment by third party contractors.
  • Administrative: completion of assigned training, reporting of mileage, timesheets, expenses.
  • Installation and commissioning of equipment and services.
  • Maintenance of equipment and services.
  • Repair and restoration of equipment and services.
  • Participate in development, continuous improvement, and following processes and procedures related to Faults Management, Preventive Maintenance, Change Control, Head End/Site audits and other duties as they pertain to the Head End.
  • Support for UTRAN (Wireless) network related to backhaul, Macro, Small Cell and Indoor Sites and equipment.
  • Installation and troubleshooting of various hub site and customer premise equipment, supporting Rogers Business products and services.
  • Ensure the proper documentation for services, equipment, and facilities are updated as required.
  • Ensure all work is done in accordance with established procedures and standards.
  • Record and report on all work activities as established for the department.
  • Work with many other departments and participate on cross-functional teams as required.
  • Complete projects that are assigned from time to time.
  • Manage a diverse workload as well as oversee contractor activity.
  • Travel to sites within your responsibility as required.
  • Must be available to work a nonstandard shift including weekdays, weekends, and overnight shifts.  Must also be available to work overtime and provide 24 hour on-call support on a regular rotational basis.
  • Be aware and adhere to all applicable Health and Safety regulations, in accordance with legislation and related Company policy.
  • Participation in field work within various environments such as rooftops and remote areas, at all times of day, during all weather conditions.

 

What you bring:

  • A minimum of 5 years experience in the telecommunications field is required.
  • Problem solving and resolution.
  • Computer skills in MS-Office, VISIO, Outlook, text editors, and others.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must be organized, self-motivated, able to prioritize multiple tasks, problem solve, and keep a schedule.
  • Sound IP and network architecture knowledge, including setup, troubleshooting, and maintenance is a definite asset.
  • Sound knowledge of digital broadcast, RF and video technology is a definite asset.
  • Sound knowledge of relevant Rogers Engineering and Operations processes.
  • Some lifting of equipment up to and including 40 lbs. 
  • College diploma in Networking, Electronics, Electrical, or related field is a definite asset.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
