The Current Affairs Assistant Editor (digital) will work on the web team to execute unique approaches to stories — both in terms of storytelling technique and presentation. Equally important, the editor will help the rest of the newsroom to create an outsize digital footprint.

 

 

What you will be doing:

 

  • Provide SEO expertise and information on keyword trends, responsible for creating and maintaining keyword rank scorecards, conducting visibility audits and/or identifying areas for additional SEO training.
  • Extensive collaboration with web team colleagues and newsroom managers as well as reporters and videographers to conceive and execute our online enthusiasms.
  • Post stories across platforms, write headlines, refine posts to increase engagement.
  • Work with product development, user experience and operations teams to design and develop interactive content to enrich the user experience and grow loyalty and unique views. Use web analytics to continuously reshape and grow content.

 

What you have:

 

  • Post-secondary education in Journalism or a related field.
  • Experience working across digital platforms.
  • Strong writing and editing skills are a must.
  • Strong knowledge of SEO best practices and emerging trends is a must.
  • Ideas-driven, positive attitude, team-oriented spirit and strong work ethic.
  • Experience with Omniture, Google Analytics, Chartbeat, as well as social platform native analytics.
  • Ability to write quick turnaround, accurate pieces linked to breaking news events.
  • A strong understanding of WordPress and a working knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript is an asset.
