We’re looking for a passionate and knowledgeable sports fan to join our Sportsnet team in the role of Associate Editor, Sportsnet.ca. In this role, the Associate Editor will work with Senior Editors to ensure that sports fans have a best-in-class experience on Sportsnet’s owned-and-operated digital channels, including the Sportsnet App, Sportsnet.ca and Sportsnet Now platforms.

The successful candidate understands which sports stories matter and the urgency of breaking news. Working with Senior Editors, the successful candidate will constantly curate the content that is performing well, always seeking to optimize our non-linear platforms to bring ultimate engagement opportunities to our Canadian sports fans. This role reports to the Manager of Sportsnet.ca.

What you’ll do:

  • Work with Senior Editors to curate content on Sportsnet’s owned-and-operated digital channels
  • Constantly look to update the presentation of the Sportsnet App and Sportsnet.ca by editing copy, editing headlines and photos and managing lineups and playlists
  • Assist Senior Editors in curating video, audio, and written content from across the network, shining a spotlight on Sportsnet’s priorities
  • Write stories off of breaking news, updating copy as developments occur
  • Assist Senior Editors in round-the-clock quality assurance, eliminating any errors and fixing any glitches that occur
  • Participate in morning or afternoon meetings, absorbing plans and priorities and pitching story ideas
  • Identify holes in our programming lineup as they occur and work with Senior Editors to ensure we find content to meet our audience’s demand
  • Execute sales obligations and monitor ad-loads to ensure they are optimal

What you’ll bring:

  • Deep knowledge and a passion for Sports
  • Strong editorial judgment
  • Copy editing and sports news writing experience
  • Well organized and forward-thinking
  • Proven ability to work well in a team environment
  • Excellent time management skills in a deadline-driven environment
  • Flexible schedule and may be required to work overtime, including some nights/weekends/holidays
