Are you up for the challenge and the fun?  If so, consider the following opportunity!

We are looking for an Audience Development Lead.

We tell great stories, report breaking news and make people across Canada smile using one of the oldest forms of human communication in a cutting-edge digital environment --and we want you to help grow our audience.  As part of the Frequency Podcast Network division within the Media Business Unit (MBU), the Audience Lead will work closely with the Frequency team and our partners at Pacific Content to understand what drives our podcast audiences to engage with our content and how we can use data to best serve them. It’s an incredible chance to be at the forefront of some of the most cutting edge audience work being done in media today.

What is “Audience Development” for podcasts? It’s a set of skills and expertise that are distinct from, but deeply interconnected with editorial and production work:

  • Research (“Who is this show for? What do they want? How are they already served? How can our show offer something new and distinctive?”)
  • Product Packaging (“What’s the visual identity of our show? Who should write our episode titles? What should be on our podcast website?”)
  • Distribution (“We have an MP3 file. How do we get it into listeners’ ears?”)
  • Marketing and Promotions (“How can we use paid, earned, owned, and internal channels to reach our intended audience?”)
  • Measurement (“How many people did our show reach? How long did they listen? Did listeners like the show? Did our paid promotions work? What will we do differently in our next episode?”)

As an Audience Lead, you’ll combine your love of audio storytelling with a spirit of creative problem solving and data-driven decision making. You’ll act as the primary Audience Development point of contact for both the Frequency team and internal stakeholders from marketing to sales and more, and advocate for best practices throughout the lifetime of a podcast.

What you will do...

  • Support editorial and production teams and learn alongside them
  • Lead audience development sessions for new shows and new seasons, and for branded podcast clients
  • Advise on product packaging elements and implement best practices for maximizing new show and season launches
  • Work with internal editorial teams to create campaigns across paid, earned, owned, and internal channels
  • Create and manage show/season asset documents
  • Manage the day-to-day needs of paid campaigns, in coordination with Pacific Content’s audience department
  • Create and lead post-mortem sessions for seasons or podcasts, and for paid clients who look to Frequency for podcast creation and services
  • Develop and implement a reporting structure for FPN podcast analytics, automating reports, offering regular analysis and feedback and charting performance vs. internal and industry benchmarks
  • Monitor the health of shows and campaigns, and suggest optimizations
  • Translate podcast metrics into actionable insights and recommendations for future editorial and marketing plans
  • Advocate for known best practices. Discover new best practices.
  • Help invent the future of the podcast industry

What you will bring...

  • Intense curiosity about podcast audiences and how to best serve them
  • A deep understanding of audio storytelling and the affordances of podcasting
  • Ability to collaborate across disparate teams with shared accountabilities
  • A willingness to examine the traditional ways of driving a media business and adapt them to a new era

Heres what you can expect in return:

  • A competitive salary and benefits that include access to our Employee Share Accumulation Program, Retirement Benefits and a variety of other perks including 50% off Rogers services and Blue Jays tickets
  • A manager who deeply cares about your development and long-term career at Rogers
  • A team that trusts and wants to win together
  • Smart and accomplished colleagues who are focused on both the “what” and the “how”
