Who we’re looking for: 
The Technology Service Layer Development team is looking for a highly skilled and motivated Automated Test Engineer to join our team. This position entails testing both software applications and hardware devices, including set-top boxes and modems, using automated testing methods as well as low-level hardware testing techniques. The ideal candidate should possess a blend of software development expertise and a passion for hardware-level communication, with strong analytical skills to tackle challenges independently. This position requires creativity and innovation, strong communication skills, and collaboration with various cross-functional teams across Rogers. 


What you’ll do: 

  • Design, develop, and execute automated tests for code, applications, and embedded devices. 
  • Conduct REST API testing to ensure the reliability and security of services. 
  • Collaborate with development teams to integrate test scripts and ensure quality across platforms. 
  • Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot testing environments for different hardware configurations. 
  • Build and utilize tools and scripts to improve test coverage and efficiency. 
  • Document test results, analyze issues, and provide feedback to stakeholders. 
  • Continuously explore and adopt new testing frameworks and tools for optimal performance. 
  • Collaborate with engineers to build reusable and testable modules to reduce cost of delivery. 
  • Perform code reviews and design reviews to ensure compliance with development standards.  
  • Help build a self-managed, cross-functional team within an Agile/Scrum environment. 

 
What you bring:  

  • Perform low-level hardware communication tasks, including writing and testing device drivers. 
  • Device Testing: Experience in testing devices such as set-top boxes and modems, including low-level communication and driver writing. 
  • Knowledge of end-to-end testing for IoT or embedded devices. 
  • Familiarity with DOCSIS and XGSPON access technologies is advantageous. 
  • Understanding Rogers Internet, Video, and Home Phone services from the customer viewpoint is valuable. 
  • Programming Languages: Strong experience with JavaScript, Node.js, and Python. 
  • Frameworks: Expertise in testing frameworks like Mocha/Chai for JavaScript and Flask or Django for Python. 
  • Testing Tools: Proficiency in testing REST APIs, validating authentication mechanisms, and managing intricate workflow testing. 
  • Web Technologies: Deep understanding of HTTP, TCP/IP, authentication protocols, and web communication standards. 
  • Automation: Skilled in designing automated test scripts and workflows using JavaScript and Python. 
  • Worker Processes: Familiarity with handling workers, job queues, and asynchronous operations. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering/Science/IT or relevant experience
