OMNI Camera Operator/Editor



OMNI News is seeking a part-time Camera/Editor for our exciting launch of expanded news.  This position will mostly be, if not exclusively, editing on our internal Quantel edit system.  Weekend work is required with some possible weekday shifts.


 Edit Responsibilities:

•Non-linear editing of broadcast content using Quantel Edit System and associated supporting software.

•Ability to make supportive editorial decisions

•Will be required to work with 5.1 audio

•May be required to work with outside clients within the Rogers group of companies

•Other duties as assigned

•Weekend and shift work required


Camera Responsibilities:

•Prepares, aligns, sets up, carries, and operates a portable electronic camera, lighting equipment, and recording unit for both pre-recorded and live to air field reports

•Consults with Producers, Reporters, Assignment Editors, and other Newsroom staff to provide creative input to the production

•Works quickly, especially as timing is such an important factor in news coverage

•Works in conjunction with mobile trucks as required

•Drives company vehicle to and from assignments

•Finds solutions to technical or other practical problems (for an outside broadcast, for example, the natural light conditions need to be taken into account when setting up shots)

•Maintains vehicle and equipment

•Demonstrates a good awareness of health and safety issues





•At least five (5) years experience in a broadcast environment, preferably in a newsroom environment

•Experience in non-linear based editing

•Experience and knowledge of Quantel edit systems

•Knowledge of 5.1 audio

•Strong understanding of broadcast workflows and the ability to adapt to new workflows

•Strong technical skills an asset

•Local news knowledge preferable

•Must be able to work well in high stress environment

•Must be able to work to tight deadlines
