Are you a sports fan and digital designer interested in innovative techniques, dynamic design, mixed-media executions and helping to set the visual tone for Canada’s No. 1 sports media brand? If so, you may be the perfect candidate for this position.


Reporting to the Managing Editor, Digital Features, is looking for a multi-skilled graphic designer to work on long- and short-term projects, weekly Big Reads, videos, photo research, illustrations, social media executions and more.




Creating industry-leading content

  • Art direct/design the “Big Read” sub-brand of stories (header art, plus accompanying graphics)
  • Hire and art direct freelance illustrators, photographers, animators and videographers
  • Work closely with senior editors and writers to develop design concepts for platform-specific executions
  • Conceive and produce complex designs and artwork for and Sportsnet’s social media platforms
  • Conduct photo research and manage photo accounts
  • Design video animation assets
  • Art direct and assist with on-location video and photo shoots
  • Help coordinate, write, edit, design and animate original digital videos
  • Work with a wide variety of internal clients to develop special projects
  • Design multiple projects simultaneously, working with competing deadlines and priorities
  • Pitch content/story ideas at weekly/monthly story meetings
  • Work closely with senior leaders to manage art budget


Optimizing for monetization

  • Use expertise to seamlessly and creatively integrate sponsors into branded content
  • Design integrated advertisements and video intros for branded content that meet the needs of Sportsnet and sponsors  
  • Develop best practices for as well as partner platforms (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube)


Liaising with industry platform and Rogers internal experts

  • Form strong relationships with contacts
  • Stay current with industry standards and emerging innovations




  • Post-secondary degree from a recognized university or college
  • Excellent editorial judgement
  • A proven understanding of digital media/social media design and best practices
  • Understanding of video editing techniques and best practices
  • Understanding of the editorial design process and best practices
  • Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (PhotoShop, Illustrator, InDesign) in a Mac environment
  • Strong knowledge of Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premier/Final Cut
  • Self-starter able to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Broad sports knowledge covering Sportsnet’s core properties (NHL, MLB, NBA, WWE, soccer, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of web design including WordPress is an asset
  • Able to work flexible hours
