Director, Sales & Integrated Content Business Affairs

 

Supporting Rogers Media properties, the Director, Business Affairs primary responsibility will be the negotiation of agreements related to branded content, integrations, and multiplatform personalities. The successful candidate will also be responsible for advising Rogers Media executives on business and rights matters with an emphasis on rights interpretation, sales products, and business strategy relating to branded content and influencer monetization. This role will provide the successful candidate with a wide ambit of responsibility across Rogers Media properties and is ideally suited for a self-starter with strong business skills and the desire to learn the evolving media business across all platforms and revenue models.

The role reports directly to the Sr. Director, Business Affairs & Development

 

Role & Responsibilities to include:

 

Integrated Content Strategy and Management

 

  • Support VPs and SVPs with talent and branded content strategy and future monetization strategies across the MBU
  • Negotiate content rights on behalf of sales clients for inclusion in branded videos in conjunction with RMI Sales & Branded Content teams
  • Support senior management decision-making with respect to content rights
  • Under the guidance of senior leadership, approve or negotiate use of content in new and emerging media across all MBU platforms
  • Advise management on content rights and business arrangements

 

On-Air Personalities and Influencers

 

  • Negotiate and draft endorsement deals on behalf of MBU and CBU
  • Manage relationships with agents, negotiate on-air personality and influencer (internal and external) agreements
  • Manage use of talent in sales and marketing campaigns in conjunction with Sales and Production
  • Manage on-air talent portfolio including advising various business units on talent services, renewals, termination rights, non-competes and exclusivity

 

Cross-Functional Support

 

  • Primary resource to sales, production and marketing with respect to rights interpretation, best practices, etc.
  • Negotiate and draft a variety of contracts and agreements for Sales and Production teams (e.g. releases, production agreements, etc.)
  • Advise on decisions associated with use of content for integrated and branded content, etc.
  • Clears rights (music, footage, consumer brands/products, etc.) for produced content
  • Rights clearance regarding brand and sales integration within news programming and original content
  • Support senior leadership with third party partner management
  • Manage database of all content rights and prepare summaries of same for senior management

 

Marketing, Sponsorship and Sales Integration

 

  • Liaise with marketing, sponsorship, sales and communications across Rogers to implement Rogers-wide initiatives into MBU partnership and content negotiations
  • Liaise with consumer facing departments to determine future content needs

 

Qualifications:

 

The ideal candidate will have:

 

  • Law Degree from a Canadian university.
  • 3-6 years of corporate/commercial experience gained from a major law firm or corporation.
  • Experience in the media and technology industries
  • Experience in creating branded content, on-air and multiplatform personality agreements, endorsement agreements, and rights clearance
  • Strong analytical, drafting of contracts, negotiation, communication, business, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong copyright and trademark knowledge and experience
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
