Director, Credit Risk Lifecycle (Rogers Bank)

 

The Director, Credit Risk Lifecycle will have primary responsibility for all aspects of credit risk across the consumer credit lifecycle in adherence with Rogers Bank’s Risk Appetite. The role will be responsible for leading the design and execution of credit risk strategies in collaboration with a team of specialists and director-level stakeholders in marketing and relevant areas. The ideal candidate will have between 7-10 years of experience in credit risk management. Leadership, outstanding communication, analytical, collaboration and conflict management skills are essential in this role.

 

The Director will influence decisions on product, channel, pricing, line assignment, acquisition and existing customer campaigns/programs by balancing risk and return in order to achieve business objectives. The director will work with a team in charge of risk segmentation, credit evaluation rules, performance monitoring, experimental design, champion/challenger testing, automation, and any related activities to maximize the risk intake without exceeding risk appetite and credit loss limits of the Bank.   This position will promote a risk culture that stresses integrity and effective risk management through out the organization, where employees at every level apply intelligent risk taking as an inherent part of their activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Developing and enhancing credit risk policies, procedures and strategies using a fact-based approach using data analytics and statistical modelling complemented by industry best-practices and expert judgement.
  • Developing credit risk criteria to support credit strategies to achieve business objectives within the Risk Appetite limits of the Bank based on a champion-challenger (AB testing) approach
  • Identifying and articulating requirements to automate decisions to support the credit risk criteria in real time in collaboration with vendors, and Operations.
  • Supporting cross-functional initiatives that require credit risk management and/or decision automation functionality within scope of the credit risk management process.
  • Presenting recommendations to develop new or optimized credit decisions.
  • Projecting the impacts of recommendations in key business drivers including new account volumes, exposures, activation rates, delinquencies, charge-offs, recoveries, and expected credit losses.
  • Maintaining a sound analytical framework to help the business identify opportunities to proactively improve results and mitigate adverse risks.
  • Communicating results in a clear and concise way to all stakeholders in the business, including those without a technical background.
  • Monitoring and presenting the performance of strategies across channels, initiatives, and tests.
  • Reporting on issues/opportunities to improve performance.
  • Supporting the planning and forecasting of key acquisition metrics in support of the Budget process with multiple stakeholders including Marketing and Finance.
  • Managing operational risks effectively by identifying risks proactively, monitoring them and implementing measures to mitigate them.
  • Attracting and retaining top talent; coaching and managing a team
  • Building and maintaining an effective relationship with key stakeholders, including Marketing, Finance, Operations, Audit, Legal & Compliance.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Business, Finance, Economics or equivalent quantitative field;
  • Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written to be able to engage and manage effectively the relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Very strong business, strategic and analytical acumen is required to ensure that execution of initiatives is sustainable and aligned with business objectives.
  • Strong people management skills and experience in the field of credit risk management and data analytics.
  • 7+ years managing credit risk in consumer finance / credit card environment is preferred in a Director role.
  • Data analysis skills must include 3-5 years of experience using statistical programs such as SAS, Knowledge Studio, Enterprise Miner, or R; proficient with the use of database querying tools such as SQL;
  • Strong analytical and statistical knowledge with an ability to combine quantitative and common-sense problem solving skills;
  • Outstanding time management and prioritization skills to manage competing priorities with a high attention to detail.
  • Driven to succeed in an changing and fast-paced environment;

 

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics or Quantitative field;
