Who we are lookng for:

Reporting to the Vice-President, Government Affairs, the Director, Government Relations (Ontario) will have significant experience both working in and with various levels of government, trade associations, campaigns, and regulatory agencies. An ability to quickly study and understand new technical and policy issues is highly important. Previous experience in broadcasting and telecommunications policy is an asset.
 
The ideal candidate is super-smart, takes initiative and demonstrates excellent judgment. Dealing with ambiguity, adapting to change, and balancing competing priorities are crucial to success. We are looking for an entrepreneurial, creative thinking and experienced government relations professional with a proven track record of effective strategy development working closely with multiple internal and external stakeholders, the public, our regulators, and different levels of governments. The successful candidate must have an acute understanding of political and public affairs landscape of the province. 
 
This role is Ontario focused; on the unique aspects of the Ontario market and key issues and challenges facing the Canadian telecommunications sector. 

 

What you'll do:

  • Lead Rogers’ advocacy efforts with provincial and municipal stakeholders.
  • As part of the Government Relations leadership team, help develop Rogers’ approach to issues, policy, politics and regulation.
  • Monitor developments in government policy, programs, and legislation to determine impact on Rogers’ business.
  • Identify and define policies of strategic importance to Rogers and develop corresponding campaigns with governments.
  • Maintain relationships with key figures in key municipal governments, the provincial government, civil service, key industry and trade associations.
  • Provide advice internally regarding new government initiatives including provincial and municipal regulation.
  • Appear before provincial and municipal bodies representing Rogers
  • Liaise between the provincial executive team and the national leadership team.

 

What you bring:

  • Post-secondary education with 10+ years’ experience in a relevant public sector, political, media or industry position.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, including an ability to make complex issues easy to understand for a variety of audiences.
  • Extensive experience working within stakeholder communities and a well-developed network within those communities, particularly in the political and public policy worlds.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
