Who we are:


FLARE is the Canadian millennial’s guide to pop culture, current events, feminism, fashion and beauty. We understand that the interests and passions of young women are vast and not to be underestimated, and we want to have a real conversation about everything that matters right now, whether it’s the constantly evolving #MeToo movement, last night’s episode of The Bachelor or the best shade-inclusive foundation line. In other words, we don’t spoon-feed our readers the same-old regurgitated clickbait. Instead, we push the conversation further. We believe in equality, we believe in representation and we believe in women supporting women. Our mission? To inform, entertain and empower readers in their personal, professional and political lives.


The Role:


We are seeking a results-oriented, innovative, experienced digital editor to provide editorial leadership, brand vision and day-today direction to FLARE, Canada’s authority on millennial culture. The right candidate will be committed to representation, equally fired up about politics, diversity in fashion and pop culture, and constantly searching for the brightest young voices in Canadian media.


The ideal candidate will have strong editorial instincts and be driven to deliver compelling content that engages our incredibly smart but often underserved audience. A deep knowledge of digital media as well as an understanding of issues affecting Canadians millennials are a must. Qualifications include post-secondary education and 8 years experience in a senior editorial role.




  • Spearhead long-term editorial planning and daily implementation across platforms
  • Surpass all audience and revenue goals
  • Manage and develop editorial team and freelance network
  • Manage editorial budget to maximize audience
  • Be a brand evangelist at events and across social and traditional media
  • Grow our online audience using an array of different strategies, from partnerships to influencers to events
  • Liaise with sales and partnerships to maximize revenue and opportunities for sponsorship




  • Post secondary degree or diploma, preferably in journalism    
  • Minimum of 8 years experience as an editor in a senior editorial position
  • Proven record of effectively managing an editorial team
  • Proven ability to understand and leverage analytics to meet traffic goals
  • Excellent editing skills and a proven ability to produce strong print and digital display copy   
  • Strong time management and organizational skills    
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills     
  • Must be comfortable working under pressure and in a fast-paced environment
