Chatelaine, Canada’s leading women’s media brand, is seeking a talented candidate to lead the Chatelaine Test Kitchen as Food Editor.

 

We are looking for a creative, energetic editor with senior-level experience to oversee the planning, development and testing of top-quality, accessible, innovative and family-friendly recipes for the Lifestyle food pillar (primarily for Chatelaine but also working in collaboration with Today’s Parent). The Food Editor will work closely with the Editorial Director, Food to plan, develop and execute smart, entertaining and visually engaging food-related editorial content across our platforms (digital, print, video, social.).  The ideal candidate is a collaborative ideas person with significant recipe-development and kitchen-oversight experience; understands editorial packaging for digital, video and print; has strong grasp of where food trends intersect with the needs of a general-interest audience. She/he is willing to experiment with new ways of interacting with our audience; thrives on creativity and innovation; and has a positive, team-focused attitude.

 

What you will be doing:

 

  • Oversee Chatelaine Test Kitchen and recipe planning, development, testing, team assignments and budgets
  • Work closely with Chatelaine’s Editorial Director, Food to plan and produce innovative editorial food content across platforms, and develop a signature, unified voice and sensibility
  • Collaborate with art team and food/prop stylists to organize and produce stunning food photography shoots
  • Work with editorial team and sales team to develop high-impact sponsored editorial programs with advertising partners
  • Think strategically to grow the digital audience for Chatelaine’s food content
  • Help develop and produce video content
  • Ensure accuracy and clarity in all Chatelaine recipes
  • Develop and manage a roster of freelance recipe testers and contributors
  • Ensure the Chatelaine Food section delivers content on time and on budget
  • Represent the Chatelaine Kitchen as a brand ambassador on TV broadcasts, in Chatelaine videos, on social media and at events
  • Manage relationships with key contacts in the food industry
  • Participate in kitchen tours and occasional events in the Chatelaine kitchen for key internal and external partners

 

 

What you have:

 

  • Minimum 3-5 years of senior-level professional experience as a food editor, test kitchen recipe developer and tester, ideally working across platforms (digital, print, social, video)
  • Proven exceptional grasp of technique, ingredients and food trends (timely and perennial) and how to translate them into smart, entertaining, creative recipes and editorial packages for a general-interest audience
  • Ability to oversee and manage a budget
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to collaborate with a creative team and work independently
  • Willingness to occasionally work outside of regular office hours
  • Broadcast experience, particularly in television, is an asset
  • Familiarity with K4 and WordPress are an asset
