Reporting to the Managing Counsel, Employment and based in Toronto, you will support the entire business by acting as litigation counsel on a wide range of employment matters including unjust dismissal, wrongful dismissal and human rights proceedings. You will be at the forefront of managing legal risk and resolving disputes. You will manage all aspects of your litigation files including:
• Drafting claims, defences, applications, motions, affidavits, and factums
• Arguing motions, case conferences, applications, and trials
• Preparing for and conducting discoveries, mediations and hearings
• Liaising with clients, opposing counsel, and court officials
• Developing and executing case strategies to secure optimal outcomes
• Where external counsel is retained, managing external counsel on behalf of Rogers
What you'll have:
• Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to handle sensitive information discreetly and confidentially
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment managing multiple priorities
• Sound business judgment and the ability to provide practical business-oriented legal advice
• Law degree (LLB/JD) and member of the Ontario bar
• 4+ years’ experience doing employment litigation preferably in federally regulated sectors
• Commercial litigation experience would be a strong asset
• Labour law experience would be an asset
• Fluency in French would be an asset
