Rogers Communications Inc. is Canada’s national communications company, engaged in three primary lines of business – wireless, cable and media. The legal department, which is comprised of about 60 legal professionals, advises on some of the most challenging and cutting-edge issues facing the telecommunications and media industries in Canada.
What you'll be doing:
Reporting to the Senior Counsel, Consumer Wireless, based in Toronto, the Legal Counsel will join a collaborative team of legal professionals providing legal advice on a wide range of consumer matters, with a focus on marketing law.
• You will be principally responsible for providing legal and strategic support to the Rogers wireless consumer business, which delivers wireless services to Canadians from coast to coast. Such work will include reviewing customer-facing marketing materials, drafting legal terms/disclaimers and overseeing the consumer contracting process.
• You will also support our product teams responsible for launching new wireless programs, working with cross-functional teams at the forefront of building and maintaining Rogers’ wireless business.
• You will also support our digital teams responsible for wireless marketing and buy flows, ensuring compliance with consumer laws, competition law, and implementing best practices for digital marketing and contracting.
• You will also keep up to date with new legislative developments in consumer/marketing law and advise the business accordingly.
What we are looking for:
This is a position based in the Rogers Toronto office. The successful candidate must be a member of the Law Society of Ontario and have:
• 2-3 years of corporate/commercial experience gained in private practice and/or in-house;
• experience with marketing/advertising law, provincial consumer protection laws and/or marketing competition law;
• a client-focused approach with the ability to provide practical business-oriented legal advice;
• ability to work in a fast-paced environment managing multiple priorities;
• strong interpersonal skills and a team player;
• ability to distill complex legal issues into simple terms and advise internal stakeholders accordingly;
• experience in the telecommunications industry and familiarity with federal consumer codes is an asset;
• French language skills are an asset, but not required.
