CityNews Toronto is looking for a full-time producer to oversee the production of our weekend 6 o’clock newscast and contribute to our flagship programs during the week.


The successful candidate will work in a collaborative newsroom and have the freedom to create and innovate on a daily basis.


About you:

You’re dialed-in to what people are talking about in Toronto. You have exceptional editorial skills, can lead a team as news breaks and enjoy coaching, motivating and mentoring. Crafting smart and snappy broadcast copy is second-nature. You thrive when learning new technology and are determined to evolve with our newsroom in this rapidly changing industry. You understand Toronto – and can talk about the characters, neighbourhoods and stories that make this city great.



The day-to-day:

  • Lead an editorial team in producing the weekend 6 o’clock newscasts in Toronto
  • Assign weekend reporters and associate producers to chase, write and produce stories relevant to our audience
  • Vet scripts and craft a compelling show while ensuring our coverage stands apart from the competition
  • Play a critical role in supporting our weekday newscasts by owning the rollout of stories with reporters, writing copy, crafting promos and contributing content to our digital platforms
  • Work with newsroom management to execute CityNews strategy
  • Pitch and contribute to creative brainstorms and story meetings
  • Lead special projects (ex. elections)
  • Lead & participate in post-production meetings and feedback sessions
  • Be a role model for the newsroom, exemplifying journalistic excellence


What you have:

  • Minimum 8 years of TV news producing or reporting experience
  • Experience with live control-room production
  • Ability to work individually and part of a team
  • Creative vision and keen editorial judgment
  • Superior writing, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional communication skills
