Rogers Communications, Media Business Unit is seeking a Broadcast Technician to join our Broadcast Engineering Team in Toronto, Ontario. The Engineering Team is responsible for the technical support of our 4 radio stations. Reporting to the Sr. Manager of Engineering, this position will be responsible for the Toronto radio operations which include CHFI 98.1, CKIS 92.5, CFTR 680 and CJCL 590.  


The broadcast technician is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all aspects of the radio stations technical operations from the radio automation computer systems to the control room and transmitter equipment. As part of the job the successful candidate will be required to travel amongst Toronto properties for service of production facilities and transmitter sites.


What you will do...

  • Maintenance, repair and installation of audio and transmission equipment (AM up to 50,000 watts and FM up to 20,000 watts).
  • Maintenance of radio/audio related computer equipment and associated servers, and networks.
  • Develop studio and transmitter projects in conjunction with the rest of the radio broadcast teams.
  • Develop and maintain engineering dept. records and drawings using Visio, AutoCAD and Excel.
  • Maintain stock for engineering parts and supplies.
  • Liaise with other departments on technical matters.
  • Assist with technical requirements for remote broadcasts and productions. This may include interaction with Television assets.
  • Some minor building maintenance.
  • 24-hour On-Call response to emergencies on a rotating basis.


What you will bring...

  • Travel required to maintain transmitter and production facilities. Valid G class License is mandatory.
  • Graduate of recognized Broadcast Technician, Electronics Technician or Technologist program.
  • Knowledge and experience with AM and FM transmission systems.
  • Knowledge and experience with WideOrbit digital audio automation systems and Burli newsroom systems.
  • Knowledge and experience with Axia Livewire and Wheatnet Audio systems.
  • Knowledge and experience with computer hardware, software and Local Area Networks.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal support as part of a cooperative team in a fast paced environment.
  • Proactive in maintenance and repair of studio and transmitter equipment.
  • Proficiency with hand tools and soldering.
  • Detail oriented with the ability to see projects and tasks through to completion.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate experience, aptitude or interest in audio-related disciplines.
  • Passion for the sciences of, electronics, mechanics, Physics and chemistry is a tremendous asset.
  • Passionate for audio and sound fidelity is a must.
  • Knowledge of streaming technologies and compression algorithms. 
  • Knowledge of multi-cam or vmix video streaming software is a tremendous asset
  • Knowledge of audio/video editing software is an asset
