The successful candidate will be detailed oriented, organized and thorough, keeping their eye on the clock and the calendar. In Sportsnet’s case, that also means knowing and understanding the ebb and flow of the “grid”, the document which outlines when, where and what time Sportsnet’s newscasts, live events and other programming air and who is involved.

 

This person must also be prepared to work with staff when there’s a scheduling issue, such as granting vacation time, changing schedules and notifying staff on late notice.

An understanding and/or experience with conflict resolution would be considered an asset.

 

Requirements:

  • Self- Starter: the scheduler must be able to work on their own and be motivated to work ahead while keeping an eye on daily schedules as well. Ability to multi-task is a must.
  • Communication Skills: The Scheduler will need to communicate with co-workers on a regular basis. They will also work closely with the technical schedulers and managers to make sure the schedules are accurate and up-to-date.
  • Critical-Thinking Skills: The Scheduler will need to devise plans of action and assess those plans regularly.
  • Organizational Skills: The Scheduler will be responsible for managing multiple demands and many moving pieces, keeping them on their toes
  • .Problem-Solving Skills: The Scheduler will be proactive and able to anticipate problems before they happen. They should be ready when problems arise.
  • 1-2 Years of experience within a newsroom environment.
