This is an exciting opportunity to help develop and drive the delivery of Rogers’ short, medium and long-term strategy and support our organization in resolving key strategic and operational choices.

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Strategy and Corporate Development, The Director will work closely with senior management and executive leaders to orchestrate the strategic planning process for business units and help them to translate that strategy into action. This position will be responsible for ensuring that the overall strategy supports the corporate goals and that the planning and implementation initiatives are aligned with the strategic direction set by the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and the Business Unit Senior Leadership teams (SLTs).

The successful candidate will be one of two Senior Directors on the Strategy team and will work with business unit senior leadership in the development and implementation of plans and priorities to help Rogers meet its long-term strategic objectives. Key activities will include:

Strategic Planning and Execution: Orchestrate Rogers strategic planning program (i.e. three-year plan)

  • Help develop, consolidate and codify our 3-year strategic plans and our annual operating plans
  • Help translate the long-term strategic plan into business specific roadmaps and operational plans
  • Identify and explore new business opportunities; summarize and syndicate opportunity assessments
  • Problem Solving & Insight: Oversee analysis and recommendations that resolve key business choices
  • Identify, frame and syndicate specific challenges and opportunities facing Rogers and the telecom industry
  • Shape the analysis and outline key steps required to resolve specific issues
  • Develop actionable recommendations for key business decisions and/or transactions
  • Quality control the problem solving and conclusions of managers and analysts / senior analysts

Communications & Presence: Communicate effectively with clients and teams in various mediums and situations

  • Credibly and effectively communicate findings, both orally and in writing
  • Design, shape and lead working sessions with extended team and senior business leaders
  • Remain calm and demonstrate confidence and resilience in tough interactions and stressful situations

Project Management: Oversee multiple large projects and cross-functional teams

  • Develop and manage work-plans to coordinate cross-team activities
  • Ensure teams produce quality deliverables on time and as committed
  • Implement agreed upon solutions, managing stakeholders and project activities to completion
  • Multi-task effectively, juggling multiple projects at one time

Internal Client Interaction: Serve as a strategy lead and thought partner / counsel to business unit SLTs

  • Manage projects and opportunity evaluations independently on behalf of the Strategy team
  • Help shape the strategy and business development agenda for business unit SLT teams and operate as a member of the senior management team

Contribution and Collaboration: Work collaboratively and effectively across the organization

  • Facilitate effective interaction across business units and functional lines of business
  • Build a strong network across Rogers
  • Take initiative willingly in identifying and driving forward opportunities
  • Motivate X-functional teams and divisional management to pursue new opportunities

Talent Development: Drive and grow a highly engaged and effective team

  • Recruit and invest in / develop top talent within and outside Rogers to increase team bench strength
  • Coach and mentor managers & analysts
  • Help drive engagement across the Strategy team

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree required; Secondary degree/diploma/certification or a Master’s degree highly desirable
  • 8-10+ years overall related work experience with at least 5 years’ experience in strategy management and project implementation
  • Familiarity with the telecommunications industry an asset
  • Line management experience (P&L ownership) an asset
  • Proven analytical, financial modeling and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated experience managing project teams
  • Strong time management capabilities, with the ability to perform multiple tasks and objectives
  • Very strong executive presence with a demonstrated ability to navigate difficult situations through relationship building and by influencing others; confident and comfortable working with senior executives
  • Confident with low ego - decisive, yet inclusive; has the confidence to engage others and challenge and defend positions in a respectful way; confident enough not to care who gets the credit
  • Strong communications (written & oral) and interpersonal skills; a proven and willing collaborator
  • Comfort with ambiguity
  • Results oriented, flexible and willing to work in a multi-task and dynamic work environment
  • Strong sense of initiative and a self-starter who can work equally well in groups or on their own
  • Innovative - proactively generates creative solutions; open to different approaches to resolve issues
  • Proven experience coaching and developing talent with diverse skillsets; ability to grow top talent
  • Ability to lead a high-functioning team in a fast-paced work environment; inspires and motivates others to higher levels of performance.
  • Dynamic, disciplined, and efficient, with a high level of energy and enthusiasm
  • Driven to Win – competitive drive to be number one and settle for nothing short
  • Advanced skills in Excel and PowerPoint; Experience with Office 365/Sharepoint Online an asset
